10:38<JohnGH>sasha: AFAIK it's not good to mix and match using synaptic and apt-get because they record different package information and get out of sync with each other.
10:39<sasha>i installed opensync from the opensync repository but the dependencies does not fit well with evolution , so i uninstalled it and reinstall from the unstable debian repo but i have some weird error now with synaptic
10:39<JohnGH>sasche: for the same reason you should pick one of aptitude and apt-get when you start building a box and stick with it - not using the other. (I only use aptitude now - I used to use apt-get until I discovered aptitude has a command line interface too and is much more powerful)
10:40<JohnGH>what is the error - and have you googled it to see if others had the same error?
10:42<sasha>yes not so much on google until now , my prob is that is says display the confirmation box , with a drop down arrow intitulated , NOT AUTHENTIFICATED , but everything is empty in it and then during the installation it says unable to install , ... broken packages , but when i filter with the broken flag , i can not fing anything

12:14<alephnull>DTE: The that I have doesn't have any control characters. You can root through the makefile to see how it is generated.
12:15<padski>hoopy, man bash, at the start
12:16<hoopy>are you talking about -rcfile?
12:16<hoopy>because i know about that. i've tried a dozen differnt things to get screen to use my .bash_profile
12:18<padski>hoopy, ok then. why do you want it to ?
12:18<DTE>alephnull: uff...too complicated for me....i'll try to rebuild new packages from new source

21:55<azeem>blueice: you probably have to add the new user to the audio grou
21:55<azeem>compare the output of "groups" for the initial and the new user
21:56<blueice>azeem, i saw it as soon as you said it. I didn't know things like sound was controlled by groups

23:07<alaya>lynx is a terminal application, so how can it not run in a tty?

23:07<Xenguy>alaya: lynx runs at a VT
23:07<Xenguy>er, tty, whatever
23:08<alaya>its a terminal-based browser
23:08<alaya>links is much better by the way
23:09<Xenguy>alaya: agreed
23:09<SomeUser>yeah, i usually use w3m
23:09<amphi>I like w3m also
23:09<Xenguy>SomeUser: it's very good but has differentkey bindings I found
23:09<SomeUser>i refer to tty as the CTRL+ALT+Fn*
23:10<SomeUser>never messed with links much to know
23:10<SomeUser>amphi: i refer to gui command line as gnome-terminal
23:11<alaya>SomeUser: do the X virtual terminals pick up the proxy env var?
23:11<Xenguy>SomeUser: console vs. terminal ?
23:11-!-GhostlyDeath [] has joined #debian
23:12<SomeUser>X terminals don't pick up the env variable
23:12<alaya>SomeUser: you could launch it like: HTTP_PROXY=127.... lynx
23:12<SomeUser>consoles get the variable that I don't want; X terminals do not get set
23:13<alaya>if you don't want it, why do you set it?
23:13<Xenguy>SomeUser: gnome-terminal will source ~/.bashrc or whatever
23:13<SomeUser>I didn't set it, wondering what is setting it
23:13*Xenguy searches for tuneage...

23:16<gsimmons>!tell rrm -about testing iso
23:18<alaya>SomeUser: until you find out where it is, i guess you could use unset HTTP_PROXY; lynx to run it
23:18<SomeUser>googling it now
23:18<SomeUser>thanks for the help
23:18<alaya>or just create a bash alias to do that
23:20<SomeUser>funny, unsetting it doesn't affect lynx but w3m works fine
