00:56<dpkg>well, utf8 is how the Perl and PHP people spell UTF-8. See also <UTF-8>.
00:56<dpkg>i heard utf-8 is Unicode encoding and ISO 10646 characters as multibyte characters. RFC 2044. A superset of US-ASCII, can represent the full international characterset range of Unicode. See bug #214254 and, or And try <lang>_<CC>.utf8 as your LANG variable. Eg: export LANG=en_US.utf8 (for a US-centric view of things). Read /usr/share/doc/groff/README.Debian to fix garbled man ...

12:12<Aleric>The main reason that metacity sucks is because the maintainers refuse to support vertical or horizontal maximization in a proper way and to support multi-head in a proper way. I wrote (very good) patches for both, but they simply don't review them, or say they don't like it that people can right-click ANYWHERE and not get the same useless menu popup and the patch is ignored.
12:13<Aleric>It also very often places windows on wrong place (wrong monitor; due to lack of support by maintainers for multi-head (none of them has more than one monitor).

16:45<vook>Guest2203: for something this basic, it may just be better to enable both networks, set the default gw to the neighbors wifi (for shame), and then place the ip addresses of your local servers in your /etc/hosts file. Both networks will be able to be contacted either way if you use the ip address specifically (unless the scheme is the same, in which case you'd just set up your local network to a different private subnet)
