04:25<dpkg>Ubuntu is based on Debian, but it is not Debian, and it is unlikely to live up to Debian's standards (see <Debian policy>). Only Debian is supported on #debian. Use #ubuntu (irc.freenode.net) instead. Even if the channel happens to be less helpful, support for distributions other than Debian is offtopic on #debian. See also <based on debian>.

23:20<rickbot_>Shendelzare: try this how-to: http://technowizah.com/2006/10/debian-how-to-ati-drivers.html
23:20<integer>still no result :(
23:20<integer>changes hd(0,0) to 0,1
23:20<amphi>Shendelzare: are you sure it's not supported by the free driver?
23:20<integer>-s+d
23:20<amphi>Shendelzare: I believe it is supported
23:21<amphi>Shendelzare: fglrx is worth avoiding, if possible
23:21-!-mentor [~matthew@80.65.241.0] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
23:21<integer>now the thing tells me "Filesystem type unknown, partition type ox7"
23:22<integer>maybe it's worth removing the whole windows-mess
23:22<rickbot_>i agree but that how to worked for me but i will say 'at your own risk' considering past experience
23:22<integer>at least, I'd get 200GB back by doing that xD
23:22<Shendelzare>thx
23:23<Shendelzare>i'l try now
23:23<Shendelzare>but is it worths installing free driver if don't want to decompile it ? :)
23:23<amphi>eh?
23:24<amphi>I would try the xorg ati driver first, and only if that gives you problems, use the reviled fglrx
23:24<rickbot_>Shendelzare: if you're going to try fglrx -make sure you backup your xorg.conf first. if the install fails you can switch back in text mode
23:26<integer>hmm
23:27<integer>what model of graphics card do you have @ Shendelzare?
23:27<integer>I just came back so didn't see the start of your question
23:28<integer>Radeon HD4670?
23:28<rickbot_>yeah, some newer cards don't get 3d support with xorg-ati afaik
23:28<rickbot_>think he said X1600
23:28<integer>oh ok
23:28<integer>hehe
23:29<integer>in my case, ATi was too lazy to release proper fglrx linux drivers
23:30<integer>but still there's hope they will open source them within a few months
23:30<rickbot_>i thought i heard something like that but its been a long time already
23:30<integer>indeed

23:31<rickbot_>i'd be satisfied if you could just depend on the install working...
23:31<integer>ah well
23:31<integer>generic drivers work fine
23:31<rickbot_>i've had success 2 out of about a dozen tries
23:32<integer>when I installed Lenny in the first place, everything worked well, (except there was no 3d support xD)
23:32<rickbot_>it seems to help if i build a custom kernel so gcc and whatnot is the right version

23:34<integer>stable has lots of outdated packages
23:34<integer>and I just got too attached to Firefox 3.0 xD
23:35<rickbot_>yeah, thats a problem. many things i used to use are too old in etch
23:35<integer>uhu
