08:50<dpkg>rumour has it, adept is a package manager for Debian that is designed to fit nicely into KDE environments. It is sufficiently buggy that it is not even in sid; take that as a warning. See http://bugs.debian.org/464340. Its use under etch is not recommended either; just use aptitude instead or if you really need a GUI, synaptic. Ask me about <aptitude> <synaptic>.

14:03<MeatShield>Hi and merry christmas...I copied two ttf fonts i want to use to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/myfonts/ then ran fc-cache, then even rebooted, but the fonts still aren't available in openoffice, and they are available in gimp but they don't actually look like they're supposed to.
14:04<enouf>try dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config
14:05<enouf>(as a guess) .. or seek out some OOo channels? .. which DE are you using? gnome/kde/xfce4
14:05<MeatShield>gnome... but as I said, they don't work in gimp and I just tried them in gedit and they just come out as squares
14:07<MeatShield>did that enouf, and dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig, and fc-cache -fv... the last of which shows "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/myfonts: caching, new cache contents: 2 fonts, 0 dirs"

[continues] ...
15:55<sardyno>... [continued] ...the original library? and does that mean i still have to rebuild the package with nostrip? i had initially thought i would just link to the -dbg package instead, but i cant get that to work either.

16:01<valdyn>sardyno: gdb should take care of all this iirc
16:02<valdyn>sardyno: output of ldd /path/to/binary should not change naturally
16:03<sardyno>thats what i thought and had hoped ... i set debug-file-directory to /usr/lib/debug and dir to the source dir
