01:18<Yonut27>Hi, I am running Debian Linux (Lenny), kernel 2.6.26-2-686, and everything is great except for one little problem. Once and a while when I am typing for long periods (5 mins without a break), and I go t use the mouse, strange things happen. First, any mouse movement does something to the current screen,, (ie. Open apps,, display rightclick menu, move task bar). And the only fix to this is a complete reboot. Is this a known problem with a fix?!?
01:19<Yonut27>and when I mean any movement, just the slightest movement without a click will d
01:19<Yonut27>o this
01:21<jm_>no-one mentioned something similar here while I was present
01:22<Yonut27>it is really weird, cause the keyboard works like normal, but once the mouse starts acting up, you just can't use it without the possibility that it will open certain things and make changes to them. And it stops when you stop moving the mouse. ANd start the moment you touch it.

01:25<jm_>well it looks like it's generating some bogus events, whether that's real is hard to say - you'd need to use other tools to see what is going on
01:26<Yonut27>is there the possiblity that the keypress delay was changed to a much quicker setting?
01:26<Yonut27>could you list a couple of these other tools?

01:32<jm_>the problem with xev is you need to start it and focus it
01:32<jm_>or use its -id option
01:32<Yonut27>not really a problem, as I don't need to type anything real, I just need the event to be triggered right?
01:32<jm_>so I suppose you can do this in advance before the problem starts
01:33<jm_>and then when things go berserk, you might see something - but if focus moves elsewhere, you won't really catch it this way
01:33<jm_>this somehow reminds me of wrong mouse protocol being used
01:33<Yonut27>true, but the keybaord keys still work, so I should be able to navigate back to the terminal
01:34<Yonut27>unless the action it does is close it on me
01:35<Yonut27>ok, but the thing that gets me to notice that this is going to happen is when I am typing, sometimes the rightclick menu appears.

07:42<benjamin>Hi, is it possible to restore dual boot (windows/debian) after installing windows again (it erased my grub partition)
07:42<benjamin>?
07:42<jm_>!fixmbr
07:42<dpkg>To reinstall <GRUB> simply boot to your Debian install disk, live CD or whatever else you have, switch to the other console (Alt-F2), then mount your root filesystem (mount -t ext2 /dev/whatever /target ; mount --bind /dev /target/dev), then chroot into it (chroot /target) then run "mount /proc ; update-grub && grub-install /dev/hda". Also ask me about <rescue mode> and <dual boot guide>.
07:42<themill>!dual boot guide
07:42<dpkg>A guide for setting up dual booting with various combinations of linux, xp and vista can be found at http://apcmag.com/dualboot . The guide covers both windows and linux being installed first on the machine. Also ask me about <fixmbr>. See http://www.supergrubdisk.org/ for an ISO image to help fix up GRUB problems.

I have them both set to sync up from the same ntp server (my own server running ntp service for my network)... I can't seem to get them to sync up exactly. Is this normal?
11:32<locklace>shrift: no, on one of them ntp isn't working right or it has a clock problem

11:33<shrift>hmmm
11:33<shrift>well I've re-run dpkg-reconfigure tzdata on both and set it to the same value
11:33<shrift>I've set them both to use the same local ntp server
11:33<shrift>run ntpdate
11:33<shrift>not sure what else to try
11:33<shrift>any ideas?
11:34<shrift>hmmm
11:34<shrift>they are both virtual machines actually
11:34<shrift>that may be important
11:34<locklace>well obviously you can tell which one is wrong by comparing with the actual time
11:35<shrift>but how should I go about correcting it if it doesn't get corrected from ntp?
11:35<petemc>which kind of virtualization?
11:35<petemc>older xen had time issues
11:35<shrift>xen
11:35<shrift>both xen vms on etch

12:46<ksergio>Hello. I deleted by mistake the configuration files for asterisk. I would like to reinstall them, how can I do that?
12:47<ksergio>I mean, I would like to have an asterisk installation just as if I had just done an apt-get install asterisk for the first time

14:32<danger_>Sorry guys a really stupid question, but here goes anyhow. I installed Lenny when it was "testing" is there any point of installing 5.0 are they just the same (sorry for such a n00b question)
14:33<locklace>danger_: you're probably already running it, what does your sources.list look like
14:33<locklace>danger_: and have you been keeping up to date with "aptitude update/upgrade"
14:33<ghantoos>graemer: it looks like the dell 2209WA has a max resolution of 1680 x 1050 (http://www.cnet.com.au/dell-2209wa-339294389.htm)
14:33<llutz>graemer: go, buy a bigger screen, the 2209wa only supports 1680x1050
14:33<graemer>chealer, 22" monitor (optimal 1680y1050) but shouldn't higher resolution be possible?
14:34<graemer>llutz, are you shure
14:34<llutz>graemer: i am
14:34<ghantoos>graemer: did you look at my link?
14:34<llutz>graemer: and Dell is sure too
14:34<danger_>locklace I've not really been keeping updated as my internet connection is horrific. My souces.list is just the Lenny DVD I have and the multimedia repos
14:35<llutz>graemer: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&sku=320-7825
14:35<chealer>graemer: it might be possible to give a higher resolution input, but the display will still be 1680 x 1050

14:35<locklace>danger_: ok, well while you have net access i'd put the usual internet lenny lines in your sources.list and do the update/upgrade; that will ensure you're up to date, there have been security issues resolved etc.
14:36<graemer>chealer, ok - I've read optimal resolution and thought a higher would be possible too - my false
14:36<chealer>danger_: they're different "snapshots" of lenny. you don't need to reinstall, you can simply upgrade.

17:53<niblets>well,im new to linux, and networking in general. my house has two laptops, one windoze vista, one linux (ubuntu to be specific, crunchbang to be exact). im trying to figure out if i buy an external hard drive (1tb) for storage, and plug it into my wireless router via ethernet, or usb, if that will work for both comps if i set it up with as fat32
