02:07<oliver>after connecting an external keyboard to the acer aspire one netbook the internal keyboard is messed up. I can temporarily restore it by doing "setxkbmap [countrycode]" and keeping ctrl-c pressed for some time. (strangely its the combination of these 2 things, one of them alone is of no avail). i have done "dpkg-reconfigure console-setup" but it seems i cant find the right keyboard (currently its at "intl 105", which does not work properly, as said)

11:30<dli>astronut, you can specify monitor size (in millimeter) in xorg.conf, or use X auto-detecting without an xorg.conf
11:30<astronut>dli: auto-detecting gives me something too big
11:30<astronut>so i just need to figure out what the size would be to give me 96x96?

14:23<Flakk>HI people I have a question which is not debain specific, but maybe somebody
14:23<Flakk>would be willing to help. I am going to build a new desktop
14:23<Flakk>computer, and want it to be faster than what I have. I am hesitating between fast CPU with low cache memory and
14:23<Flakk>not-so-fast CPU with big memory. (Buying both of them costs quite a bit.) My basic complaint with my actual machine is that the pdf-files (e-books, images, etc) are opened very slow, actually the procedure of turning the page is slower than in the real world for real books. I would like to turn the pages instantaneously. So what should I prefer: the CPU speed or cache? at present my machine has 3200 Ghz and 1024Jb cache
