01:41<raylu>so, i want to use firefox 3.5 on my amd64 install of debian squeeze... how would i go about doing this?
01:42<jrabbit>ethier get the binary from mozilla or use iceweasel in the default repos or a third party repo with mozilla firefox
01:44<raylu>mozilla only seems to offer 32-bit binaries
01:44<raylu>where would i go look for a third-party repo?
01:44<sney>www.google.com
01:45<fgh>Google
01:45<jrabbit>raylu: are you sure? doesn't sound right.
01:45<sney>it's also technically possible to build it yourself
01:45<kalatidha>raylu: how fast 64bit that 32bit?
01:45<kalatidha>*than
01:45<sney>kalatidha: not much of a difference usually
01:45<raylu>sney: been loooking for the source... also isn't on getfirefox.com. googling around for both now
01:45<sney>dev.mozilla.org iirc
01:46<sney>hmm, maybe not
01:47<sney>ah, here it is. https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Download_Mozilla_Source_Code

01:52<sney>samba has some limited SMB messaging support, I think

05:11<Gold24>depends on your keymapping

05:12<jm_>!keymap
05:12<dpkg>To change your console keymap, run "dpkg-reconfigure console-data". To change your X keymap, read "man xmodmap", or ask me about <drxx> or use kcontrol, gnome-control-center or similar. 06:06<andreyv>i do not have locales installed, it depends on glibc-2.10... glibc is in libc6 which is not yet upgraded on i386
06:06<andreyv>so on i386 there is only glibc-2.9.smth
06:07-!-do0ob [~ace@79-67-142-195.dynamic.dsl.as9105.com] has joined #debian

06:09<andreyv>it writes> locales: Depends: glibc-2.10-1 but it is not installable and that's it
06:10<andreyv>then i go to http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=libc6&searchon=names&exact=1&suite=unstable§ion=all and see that glibc-2.10-1 available only on amd64 arch
06:10<themill>where did it say that? it's not in the pastebin
06:10<jm_>I would say that's not a problem since it's just a warning emitted by perl - but it may need locale functions for whatever it's doing, should be easy to debug the postinst anyway
06:11<andreyv><themill> sorry, know it is there http://pastebin.com/m517fd3c4 line 41

12:06<faheem>hi. does have anyone have more precise information than in http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEtch wrt to the end of etch security updates? ie. will security updates for etch end feb 2010?
12:08-!-heberto [~heberto@189.174.111.193] has joined #debian
12:08<themill>faheem: a few packages have already lost security support in etch (e.g. iceweasel). The rest *should* be supported until Feb 2010 and no-one is talking about changing that usual practice at this stage.

12:08<faheem>themill: thanks. so feb 2010 is fairly definite for most of etch, but not longer, right?

12:09<themill>faheem: there's a chance that support might continue beyond that, but I doubt it since there is now talk of trying to freeze squeeze for release starting from March

20:45<Cocoabean>Hi, I am having trouble deciding the best way to resolve my issue of receiving multiple default gateways due to multiple interfaces getting DHCP. I set them up in /etc/network/interfaces but they all grab default gateways and it creates loops.
20:46<Lillymon>Debian goes from disaster to disaster with me. First the Squeeze installer says it can't find any ethernet interface (in other words, it can't see my only network connection), so I try a live system on my USB flash drive. That just failed to boot at all, citing a problem with live-intramfs. The problem itself is irrelevant, the fact that I've still not confirmed Debian can actually see my ethernet connection is the problem.
20:47<Lillymon>This is all very bad.
20:47<kmap>Guest1666: Oh, I see
20:48<kmap>Guest1666: Well, I'd try sudo modprobe forcedeth, for one

23:48<luser1>hi, why does debian start services as default? apt-get install ssh with download it then enable the daemon..how can I turn this off?
23:49<abrotman>can't
23:49<luser1>I suspected
23:49<luser1>not good man
23:49<abrotman>you could of course setup a firewall that only allows what you want to let through
23:49<abrotman>oh wait .. ISTR someone talking about this .. hrm
23:49<luser1>apt-get install doesn't mean "btw run the daemon!"
23:50<abrotman>i'm sure i'll never find it now
23:50<luser1>within a chroot "apt-get install rsyslog" created some pains aswell.
23:51<luser1>udev however checks that its in a chroot.
23:52<faheem>luser1: you can stop the ssh server if you want
23:52<faheem>is that what you mean above?
23:52<luser1>sure.
23:52<abrotman>he doesn't want it to start by default
23:52<luser1>the arogance of it starting by default.
23:52<faheem>luser1: /etc/init.d/ssh stop
23:52<faheem>luser1: yes, it is configured to start by default
23:52<abrotman>they assume if you're installing it, you want it running .. sillyright?
23:52<luser1>yep
23:53<faheem>there might be a low debconf question about this, dunno.

23:53<faheem>low priority or whatever.
23:53<luser1>maybe well all fall into the open ports running daemon issue with debian and I'll quote from Babylon 5 :)

23:56*luser1 wonders how many pwned debian boxes are out there?
23:57<faheem>luser1: your setting is low, and you don't see any config question about ssh server?
