01:24<samantha>how do you type a space in a file name in terminal?
01:25<samantha>someone told me it was \ but that doesnt work
01:25<samantha>im getting errors
01:25<edhunter>samantha: it is \
01:25<samantha>that's not working
01:25<edhunter>so file 1 should be file\ 1
01:25<Nemoder>put the whole thing in quotes if \ escape doesn't work for whatevfer reason
01:25<Nemoder>-f
01:26<edhunter>samantha: you do need to have the space also after \
01:26<samantha>escape?
01:26<samantha>ya edhunter I tried that
01:26<edhunter>samantha: there are special characters in the shell like " ' space and others. if u use a \ before those you escape them
01:26<Nemoder>putting a backslash in front is called escaping the character that follows it
01:26<samantha>escape?
01:27<samantha>ok
01:27<edhunter>samantha: can you paste the command you used (if its not too long)? and also try Nemoder suggestion
01:27<Nemoder>yes, you can't replacing the space with backslash you are putting the backslash in front of the space

05:00<aster>hi
05:01<aster>I have a problem with dpkg-buildpackage
05:02<aster>i have downloaded kstars source with "apt-get source kstars", and builded with dpkg-buildpackage
05:03<aster>every time i change source of kstars, dpkg-buildpackage rebuild ALL packages downloaded (kdeedu)
05:04<aster>it is possible to rebuild only kstars without recompiling all packs ?
05:04<aster>thanks
05:05<weasel>no
05:05<weasel>at least not trivially or if the package doesn't have some (non-standard) means to do that
05:07<aster>thanks :-(

05:44<EranM>I was under the impression that squeeze is testing and sid is unstable? which one do I get on my machine?
05:45<themill>!squeeze/sid
05:45<dpkg>Debian doesn't distinguish if a system runs testing or unstable. "squeeze/sid" means a system is either tracking testing or unstable (or a mix). If you want the list of releases your system really tracks, ask me about <tracked suites>. Also ask about <why squeeze/sid>, <list repositories>.
05:46<EranM>!why squeeze/sid
05:46<dpkg>Why "squeeze/sid" instead of just "squeeze" or "sid"? See /usr/share/doc/base-files/FAQ ("Questions about /etc/issue and /etc/debian_version") for the answer.

13:39<dpkg>To get an NTFS or VFAT file system accessible by users and groups on the local machine, man mount; man 5 fstab; and read about the umask, fmask, dmask, uid, and gid options. 16:51<BlackFate>i found the solution...
16:52<BlackFate>the problem is that 1 week ago i removed busybox.. and today i got new kernel update.. and the initrd was built with no busybox to its binaries
16:52<BlackFate>so i reinstall busybox and then the kernel

16:56<BlackFate>for me.. i had to extract the initrd
