07:16<cahoot>autoswitch-off of speakers when using headset?
07:17<gsimmons>Apparently there's "headphone" and "line" jack sense mixer controls for some devices, the exact solution wasn't clearly stated.

07:34<abrotman>agamer: which version of debian ?
07:34<abrotman>!why aptitude
07:34<dpkg>aptitude has more advanced conflict/dependency resolution and will often be able to come up with a solution where apt-get just gives up. It has advanced search capabilities (see <aptitude search>). Like apt-get, it can also remove or purge one package at the same time as installing others all from the command line or at the Y/n/q/? prompt using its interactive resolver, making it much easier to recover from broken dependencies.

13:38<trimordiah>so, the problem: i just installed the lxde version of debian, i modified sudoers so that my user don't need a password; the trouble is in pcmanfm: when i click on a partition on the left, it tells me that it runs 'pcmanfm -mount $hal_device' as root without asking a password (so far so good, a simple warning), but then it tells me i don't have the permission to browse that folder :/

13:50<babilen>How do you install Debian? Netinstall? CD1 / DVD1 ?
13:50<Guest1980>DVD1.
13:50<babilen>I haven't seen that particular problem before ... Do you get any errors on one of the other consoles?
13:51<Guest1980>Nope, no other errors. Strange part is, it's worked for other computers.
13:52<babilen>*shrug*
13:52<babilen>Not much I can do then :-D
13:52<babilen>I would try a netinstall image and see if that works out

16:51<wolas>I have simple question maybe stupid one... So I installed debian and setted up postfix + dovecot everything is working I have domain, it works perfect from outside, but when i m in lan mine domain name is not accessible it points to mine modem... And for clients i used google DNS so if i edit /etc/hosts file and point things to right lan ip google DNS wont
16:52<wolas>pick mine ip?
16:52<wolas>i need to install dns server on server? which way it would be easiest?

16:55<petemc>wolas: i use bind9 in work to give different answers depending on where the request came from, so a client on the lan gets the internal ip, an external client gets the external ip
16:55<james__>bind9 would be the way to go, it's probably the best for dns, afaik.

17:04<fred1_>wolas, sounds like your 'modem', is really a router doing NAT.. so yes, your outside 'static' IP is assigned to the router, not to your internal machines
17:04<petemc>Zlasher: does it work with perl script.pl ?
17:04<morph3k>sudo apt-get install deluge

17:04<morph3k>hold on
17:04<fred1_>you'd need to setup inbound port mappings in the router if you want outside clients to be able to access services inside your network
17:04<james__>You can write it yourself, Zlasher.
17:04<petemc>22:01 < Zlasher> I have this perl script..
17:05<fred1_>and for internal clients, they'll need a way of accessing the services by their internal IP

17:06<fred1_>wolas, perhaps you need to isolate the 'server' machines from the 'client' machines, have them on seperate internet connections
17:06<petemc>Zlasher: in case it wasnt clear, i was suggesting that you type "perl <name of your script>" in a shell, to see if it runs

17:44<james__>That's a good thing in this case, since it relies on the same terminal that Debian uses.
17:46<james__>What I'd do is rely on rtorrent till you find the solution, and meanwhile look into sftp. It's not the most user-friendly, but it's secure and gets the job done.

18:19<TheBlueWizard>ah....that _may_ explain why....
