06:14<inkbottle>Hi, if I want to have a experimental version of only one package: I add exp. in the source list + I forbid exp. by putting the pin to 100 in preferences + save for the very package i want it to be exp. for which I put a specific pin priority together with this very source. 06:24<Elessar>Because it is not a distribution and will always get a low priority, or something like that.

06:26<Elessar>no idea.
06:26<Elessar>I think experimental has been designed to work like that, to enable testing of individual packages and not to be another testing distribution.

06:43<inkbottle>hachi, I don't know if it answer, but with debian-installer, you can choose the partition to use, though you tell it not to format them 'K' (then you could have done the work before with another tool)

12:08<dpkg>methinks downgrade is not possible with apt-get currently. No future support is anticipated. Some programs change the binary format of their files in a way that cannot be rolled back later, and package maintainer scripts provide ways to upgrade to new config file formats but not ways to downgrade. You can always try to downgrade a package using dpkg -i <olderversion.deb>. See also <partial downgrade>, <unstable->testing>, <sdo>.

I am copying some folders from my notebook to the desktop through ssh2 and ethernet connection. The folders on the new place forget their date of creation, although the files (like .pdf etc) keep it. I would lik to keep the date of creation also for folders. Is it possible? how to do this? thanks

22:36<CarlSagan>hello everybody. i was wondering if anyone here was familiar with older versions of debian for older computers (like, 2.2 potato) and pcmcia cards. i'm having trouble getting mine to get recognized, and i don't know where to start in the /etc/pcmcia/config file.

22:39<goodger>CarlSagan: even on older computers, the lack of support and security updates makes it a very bad idea to run an obsolete operating system
22:39<gsimmons>CarlSagan: Any particular reason why you're using Potato on your system?

22:41<CarlSagan>i just want to put an old version of x and maybe some other nifty linux odds and ends so i can learn more about how linux works with it. apt-get seemed the quickest way to do so. ( none of my other computers have floppy drives, and the 110cs does'nt have a cd-rom drive.

22:49<kop>How would I allow a user to mount, but be able to specify -o ro. The only thing I can think to do is have 2 mount points, one for rw and one for ro, in fstab. Seems a bit ugly.

22:53<kop>I'm using minicom to interact with and log a serial console. The only problem is that if I go back and look at the logs it's very difficult to tell when something happened. I'd like to be able to insert --[mark]-- sort of lines as happens in the system logs. The only way I can think to do this is to hack minicom. Anybody have a better suggestion?

22:55<kop>Changing $PS1 or some such to include a timestamp would be a step forward, but it does not help if there's no user interaction and the system crashes or spontainously reboots or some such.
