06:49<mihkel>Hi. I compilded vanilla kernel and set libata for ata drives. Also changed /etc/fstab file accordingly.
06:49<mihkel>But now on every boot it looks for /dev/hda5
06:49<mihkel>wich was my swap partition
06:50<mihkel>I can press enter there and it goes on with no problems
06:50<mihkel>but why it is looking for /dev/hda5
06:50<mihkel>I guess it thinks resume image is in /dev/hda5
06:51<jm_>are you using suspend?
06:51<themill>you want the boot parameter noresume, and then fix /etc/uswsusp.conf and/or bootloader

13:11<WofFS>are you sure LILO is panic'ing?
13:12<philsf>WofFS, yes. it worked fine after installation for a month until this weekend when we had a powerdown
13:12<philsf>WofFS, no, I'm not. lilo is the only clue I have so far, since it's by this time that the kernel hangs
13:12<WofFS>LILO does not want to mount any root device
13:13<WofFS>i think, the kernel has no lvm2 at the time when it wants to mount its root dev
13:13<WofFS>block (253,0) is /dev/dm-0
13:13<philsf>WofFS, I think I should have made a non-LVM /boot partition, but I was surprised that it worked in an all LVM environment, so I thought we had progressed to that effect

13:15<philsf>the partition scheme is basically 1 partition for swap, and 1 for the raid, and all fs partitions in the LVM as LVs, including /boot

14:45<tholmith>you will not be able to use debian-live for install. not unless you use debootstrap which is not quite simple if you are a begginer. you could use the netinst to avoid the initial download time. but you will anyway have to download the rest of the packages that are not on the netinst image. you could also just download netinst for x64 and install. then you'll see how is working.

15:23<tholmith>ukil, you should do the install using the cable connection, this way you'll have normal speed, but the wifi might not work even after finishing install. i think there is some proprietary driver for your card, that you might have to install, but i might be totally wrong. the best thing you can do is to test with debian-live and see what can be done from there. dmesg messages would be good as a start for trubleshooting this issue.

23:41<interbird>dpkg --help will show the dpkg flags; one of them will show you what dpkg would do if you would want it to -- just read
23:41<dpkg>You are person #2 to send an unparseable request, interbird
23:42<interbird>!shutup
23:42<dpkg>yes master, I'll STFU
23:44<syber>I looked at that, I would need a flag that set all scheduled deinstall to install. It will be a lot of work if I have to go and set each one back to install manually.
23:45<syber>I didn't see one that would do that. So that's what got me thinking about an input file or a shell script.
23:45<syber>I got a list of all package status, then grepped out the ones listed for deinstall. So, I have that at least.
23:46<interbird>input files or automatic shell-scripts are only a good idea when you know it works
23:46<interbird>you are now in a state that some install (my guess) wants to uninstall other stuff

23:47<interbird>did you do an apt-get update before you began? (to sync your repo)
23:48<syber>I tried to deinstall libxxf86rm, because I'm building wine and having a little trouble with depend packages.
23:48<syber>I did an update recently. several days ago.
23:49<syber>As it turns out. Xorg-dev is dependant on libxxf86vm so I let it select that for deinstall too.
23:49<interbird>building wine like with apt-get source wine and then compile ? -- that should have noting to do with it
23:49<syber>That caused a avalanche of deinstalls to be scedualed as far as I can tell.
23:50<syber>I
23:50<syber>I'm building wine from git because of a program I want to run with it.
23:50<interbird>apt-get source cannot cause an avalanche, only deinstalling a package could do so; sources are unrelated to .deb packages and their dependancies
23:51<syber>I deinstalled libxxf86vm and xorg-dev, maybe that's what did it.
23:51<syber>alot of packages may have depended on xorg-dev
23:52<interbird>dev-packages are only needed for compiling from source -- no interference with binairy .deb's
23:53-!-horiz6 [~horiz6@7GDAABBUL.tor-irc.dnsbl.oftc.net] has joined #debian
23:53<syber>yeah, that's what I'm doing, compiling wine from source.
23:53<interbird>you need to read dpkh --help for fixing repo inconsistancies
23:54<syber>To do that I need to build some newer versions of a couple of libraries.
23:54<syber>then were available as binaries.
23:55<syber>Ok, my coffee's ready, I'll look at it again.
23:55<interbird>mkdir my-fine-wine; cd my-fine-wine; ./configure --prefix /opt/my-fine-wine; make; sudo make install; -- nothing to do with your .deb repo
23:57<interbird>Enjoy your coffee and don't forget about the WINEPREFIX muffin :-)
23:57<syber>Yes, although I was trying to deinstall a couple of dev libs and headers that were too old and causing complaint in configure for wine.
23:58<syber>Then I got newer sources for those lib and headers and built them from source.
23:58<interbird>did you dowload wine from the inet ?
23:58<interbird>then lenny (dev-stuff) is too old
23:58<syber>Namely, it was libmpg123, libxxf86vm, and one other one.
23:59<syber>I got wine from the winehq git repository.
23:59<interbird>why not try apt-get source wine in your Lenny distro ?
23:59<interbird>then compile
23:59<syber>I tried that first actually.
23:59<syber>the program I wanted to run still crashed.
