00:23<Lanz>Anyone notice that MySQL/Akonadi was broken recently in unstable?
00:24<Lanz>You fix it by running: mysql_fix_privilege_tables --password=yourpasswordhere
00:24<Lanz>Just thought I'd pass that along
00:24<Lanz>Rather sloppy for such packages to make it into unstable, when they clearly cause Akonadi to stop working... >_>
00:25<simonrvn>dude, it's not stable, it's unstable. QuitYerBitching and file a bug

00:55<musixuser>im new to linux. mind telling me how to adjust volume?
00:55<Dreakon>are you using GNOME?
00:56<musixuser>gnome? i just did this about an hour ago. live cd
00:56<Dreakon>if so, you can do it by going to System > Preferences > Sound
00:56<Dreakon>then adjust the master level I guess
00:56<Dreakon>if youre on a laptop, Fn +F11/F12 does it for me
00:57<musixuser>cool thanks alot
00:57<Dreakon>no problemo :P
00:57<musixuser>so this chat is pretty neat.
00:57<Dreakon>yeah, I like IRC, definately handy ;)
00:58<chlin>is any wiki that tells how to conifgure ati driver?
00:58-!-diggy [~digger@] has joined #debian
00:58<musixuser>im likin linux a lot more than windows
00:59<Dreakon>chlin, I have no idea... but maybe this will help?
00:59<Dreakon>musixuser, yeah, I've been on the edge for a little while. There are things I like about both but Linux has come a looong ways.
00:59<chlin>Dreakon: cool. thanks.
01:00<dpkg>To use an ATI graphics card with Debian, ask me about <radeon>, <radeonhd>, <fglrx>. See also <radeon vs radeonhd>. Installing proprietary drivers from (i.e. with the ATI Driver Installer) is not supported in #debian, please go to #ati (
01:01<kop>chlin: ^^
01:01<Dreakon>I've gotten to a point where I'm full time on Debian now. I'm enjoying it a lot, especially since the last time I was on Windows it randomly messed up my theme somehow and overheated when i was away.

01:05<chlin>kop: thanks for that message. : )

01:11*Dreakon sighs.
01:11<Dreakon>I need to find me a good game lol.
01:11<dbldtx>Dreakon, care about messing with Wine/Cedega?
01:12-!-vsayer [] has joined #debian
01:12<dbldtx>Nexuiz, OpenArena, Sauerbraten are good FPS games that are apt-gettable.
01:12<Dreakon>dbldtx, I have wine, but not much goes very well in it for me. I have an intel card so 3D games are pretty much a no-go from the start.
01:12<Dreakon>dbldtx, any non-FPS ideas? I kind of want a game where I can just adventure and chat with people lol
01:13<chlin>Dreakon: AssaultCube, though not perfect, but is not bad.
01:13<dbldtx>Look into IRIS, the UO client, else get the Windows client., uohybrid (whatever the site is) are good but UOSAVIOUR.NET is going to be the best, just hasn't started yet -- those are all Ultima Online servers based on one of th most popular MMORPGs of all time... VERY good game.
01:14<chlin>CS-like style.
01:14-!-GeorgeDorn [] has quit [Quit: leaving]
01:14-!-snogglethorpe [] has joined #debian
01:14<Dreakon>I tried UOSecondAge in wine actually and it ran terribly lol.
01:14<dbldtx>There are a good deal of free UO servers, and the client will run on a brick -- my old Compaq Presario 2100 128mb RAM runs UO just fine... that's a free MMORPG if you use free servers
01:15<Dreakon>got in and took a few steps and the whole thing practically froze up
01:15<Dreakon>is IRIS any good?
01:15<dbldtx>That's unfortunate -- my machine ran it well and was as described above. Another chattable Multiplayer game that you can play with wine is called Continuum/SubSpace -- it's a good one like Asteroids MMO
01:15-!-afurlan [~afurlan@] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
01:16<dbldtx>Yeah IRIS runs natively on linux and can be a 2d or 3d client.
01:16<Dreakon>interesting, I could get into UO again
01:16<chlin>Dreakon: if you don't mind, dod runs with wine fine under linux.

01:17<Dreakon>chlin, considering I struggle with Ultima Online under wine, I cant imagine any 3D games really working too well :P thanks tho!
01:17<dbldtx>UOSAVIOUR.NET - check it out, it hasn't even started yet, so getting into it from DAY0 would be fun.
01:17<dpkg>A little off-topic conversation is okay here and there, but not too much, and not when the channel's busy, and not if it's your primary reason for being here. Please join #debian-offtopic
01:17<dbldtx>Dreakon: subspace/continuum is 2d VERY fun game
01:17<Dreakon>Lol, is that your way of saying I should go away? :P
01:18<dbldtx>...and adddictive. No, it's my way of saying we shouldn't be talking about this. How's this for offtopic: Going to go burn one. Good luck!

20:34<firefox>if i use iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o wifi0 -j MASQUERADE | shouldnt that forward all my ports?
20:35<firefox>I cant get a media center pc to see my 360 through a debian laptop I am using. the 360 hits live, but not any local comps through my debian box I am guessing
20:35<bja>firefox: can you ping both machines?
20:36<firefox>bja, I dont know if the 360 will answer pings... let me check from the laptop
20:37<bja>first of all you have to know that you can contact both machines on the two different subnetworks you will be using
20:38-!-manphiz [] has joined #debian
20:40<firefox>its a wireless to ether net, cause I didnt want to buy the $100 network card lol. the xbox reaches the internet through the laptop . still seeing if I can ping
20:40-!-unixabg [] has joined #debian
20:41<bja>so your xbox is allready using your lap as a firewall?
20:42<firefox>bja, yeah . I set the wifi0 to, the lapt top eth0 to, and the xbox is manually set to

20:42<firefox>bja, I cant ping the xbox from aother computer on the network. what was the comman to ping a specific iface?
20:43<dli>firefox, arping
20:43<bja>paste the output of iptables -L -n -v
20:43<sbyrne>What is the preferred method for encrypting a filesystem mounted somewhere other than root?
20:43<bja>cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth1/proxy_arp

20:46<firefox>bja, the proxy_arp = 0 ^__^
20:46<firefox>bja, thats my problem I am guessing.
20:47-!-psych787 [] has joined #debian
20:48<bja>the problem is that you have a one way ticket on your lap, your xbox will look at the whole world sitting behind your laptop, but noone will reach it from the outside
20:49<firefox>bja, I was thinking that to, so how do I make it a two way street? the laptop is behind my router so its not risky to make it "transparent"
20:49<bja>to be able to ping it i would consider this echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth1/proxy_arp
20:50-!-drewdavis [~drew@] has quit [Quit: quit]
20:52<bja>then i would iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE <-- I haven't done it and i don't know if it works or not
20:53<firefox>bja, I wouldnt have to forward it? -i wifi0 -o eth0?
20:53<firefox>I turn the proxy on, but no ping.. I am guessing the xbox rejects them or something
20:53<bja>firefox: Don't know, try it and see
20:53<dli>firefox, why do you need ping from outside, NAT+port forwarding is enough
20:54<bja>firefox: skip the pinning, try the real stuff
20:54<firefox>dli, because my xbox can get to the internet, but my media pc cant share to it

20:59<dli>firefox, yes, you can try bridging, or VPN
20:59<dli>firefox, still, port/forwarding might be enough
20:59<firefox>dli, cant bridge a wireless nic and an ethernet in the usual way
