01:21<dpkg>Ubuntu is based on Debian, but it is not Debian, and it is unlikely to live up to Debian's standards (see <Debian policy>). Only Debian is supported on #debian. Use #ubuntu (irc.freenode.net) instead. Even if the channel happens to be less helpful, support for distributions other than Debian is offtopic on #debian. See also <based on debian>.

11:34<leonardo_>Hello! I am running a system Squeeze / Sid. I looked across the intenet and all forums for a solution to my problem and nothing. The problem is the following: Dolphin does not mount my other hard drives. They appear in "places" but when I click I get a message "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.PermissionDenied: Refusing to mount device /dev/ sdaX for uid = 1000". I tried, as read in other forums, create a configuration file for Polkit but in vain. I
11:34<leonardo_>also saw that this is a common problem in other Distros, possibly a problem with KDE 4.4. Important detail: in earlier versions of KDE 4.x I solved this problem by changing the permissions of the HAL PolicyKit module located in systemsettings but in KDE 4.4 this module is missing, ie has been removed. Please I need help.

I tried, as read in other forums, create a configuration file for Polkit but in vain. I also saw that this is a common problem in other Distros, possibly a problem with KDE 4.4. Important detail: in earlier versions of KDE 4.x I solved this
12:17<serraemeira>problem by changing the permissions of the HAL PolicyKit module located in systemsettings but in KDE 4.4 this module is missing, ie has been removed. Please I need help.

12:18<disposable>AlBaTrOs: install 'falselogin' add it to /etc/shells and when you create new users, make sure you specify /usr/bin/falselogin as their shell in /etc/passwd. this way they will be able to use ftp, but they won't be able to log in using ssh.

19:37<edbian>A while ago I installed a program called "bootlogd" to try and measure my boot up performance in order to improve it. I have been long done with that project but now when my system boots I get a punch of informative lines like: "reading files needed to boot..." and "waiting for /dev to be fully populated". However when the system prints "starting boot logger bootlogd" nothing is printed afterwords. I'm worried those messages after bootlogd are covered up and
19:37<edbian> may be important to me. How can I get rid of bootlogd? I already purged the package.

23:15<Dreakon>Hey guys, are there any good greeting card making programs for Linux? I'm in charge of making the mothers day card for my mom lol
23:16<dli>Dreakon, what about online programs?
23:16<TrueNhero>how i can change resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600 without upscaling
23:16<Dreakon>dli, that would work I guess, as long as it's good. :P

23:27<Dreakon>Or any online services where I can design a card and print it out?
23:28<aiux>tried ooo ?
23:28<cwood>Dreakon: Inkscape and The Gimp might help you out. They're not specifically for cards though.
23:29<Dreakon>aiux, I didn't realize that was a suggestion for me lol. Whats ooo?
23:29<aiux>read above
23:30<Dreakon>OpenOffice? What part of it is for greeting cards?
23:30<Dreakon>cwood, I suppose that'd work, but I'm pressed for time. Something a bit more for cards would be better I think, but maybe as a last resort :P
23:30<cwood>Get your ass out to somewhere and buy a card at this stage, I'd say.
23:31<Dreakon>cwood, lol, I see. Any suggestions for the future other than GIMP and Inkscape?

23:33<Dreakon>I'm not opposed to buying cards, infact I work at a grocery store so it'd be cheap and easy for me to. ;) I'm pressed for time in the sense that I'd like to see if a greeting card program exists tonight before I sleep.
