00:42<Scynix>Sigh, I can sudo just fine, that's not the problem. If PID is the # on the left, it's constantly changing, its' going up by 2 everytime I pull up the list.
00:42<Scynix>so by the time I kill #, it's wrong.

01:54<twiggz>Heres a thought...why do people go out buying dual cores and quad cores and so on ..when most applications cant even use them properly yet?
01:54<twiggz>I have a single core p4 with the same mobo, type and amount of ram that runs apps faster than this dual core...
01:54<jm_>because pretty much everything is dual core nowadays
01:54<Appl6>twiggz: Because four applications can use four cores pretty easily.
01:54<the-dude>because you don't want to search for a single core ?
01:55<ODDity>the hardware is also sensible enough to spread the load over multiple cores now-a-days
01:55<jm_>it's software that needs to do that, not hardware
01:56<ODDity>not all the time
01:56<twiggz>Appl6: then explain how my 2.66ghz p4 single core reacts faster than a core2duo @ 2.60ghz and a dual core celeron @ 2.20ghz with the same mobo, same amount of ram...etc...
01:56<twiggz>i feel cheated.
01:56<Appl6>twiggz: Where "etc." means an incredible number of settings that constitute the state of your machine, which you couldn't possibly verify or assert to be equal.
01:57<twiggz>Appl6: the hardware is all the same except the processors I described :)
01:57<twiggz>same brand and all.
01:57<Appl6>twiggz: "Reacts faster" implies applications, daemons, configuration settings, OS settings, and more.
01:58<twiggz>It means it takes my single core less time to open up say...iceweasel.
01:58<twiggz>lol.
01:59<twiggz>it also runs the free fps game nexuiz faster than both of these dual core desktops i have alongside it...

04:44<cahoot>sux?
04:44<jmm>matth: use xhost +
04:44<jmm>then su :)
04:44<matth>jmm: isn't it allowin for everybody ? and a big security issue
04:44<matth>I just want user B not the world
04:44<jmm>yea it's not secure in any way.
04:45<jmm>but you can specify a user , like xhost +bob

07:40<handjob>Hi. I have question regarding apt. I insalled lxde and let's say fucked some settings of it. I wanted to purge it and install again so everything restors to default. sudo apt-get remove --purge etc. and after installing it again I find the previous setting actuall which is kind a bad thing. I thoung --purge would remove configuration files. Help

07:42<handjob>To be honest I didin't cheacked that. I tought by default there would be stored in ~/. Does --purge works on only one of thoes directories?
07:42<Gromitt>handjob: try to remove .config in your $HOME directoy. LXDE and the related applications are saving their configuration there.
07:43<Gromitt>handjob: apt-get --purge removes the systemwide configurations in /etc, if are they exists.
07:43<handjob>Thank You both.

I don understand how i can change to the other netwerk. There is no network manager graphical thingy as i;m just to. If i do ifconfig i get essid: name of the netwerk i do

15:14<dbldtx>I just recently went on NetFlix and tried to WatchNow a movie -- it said the Operating System wasn't one they supported. Finding this odd since it's not the OS that streams video, I thought it was asking my browser what it was and that my browser was answering back "IceWeasel" where the site wanted it to say "FireFox".
15:15<dbldtx>From there, I installed FireFox via http://deviceguru.com/adding-real-firefox-to-debian-lenny/ but the SAME problem. What snakes. NetFlix wouldn't let me stream media because I was using Debian Lenny, an OS they do not (WILL NOT) support.

22:39<chitchat>Can somebody help me please? I'm trying to install dvb driver as follows: m-a a-i dvb-driver (I've done prepare and update). It complains that installation of the source failed and that maybe I should add something to sources.list. Any ideas?
22:40<abrotman>there is no 'dvb-driver' ?
