08:05<darrob>hi. there is one single annoying application that's gui-only and that i would like to run on my headless server. the most mature solution for a detachable X seems to be vnc still. does somebody have a pointer to a minimal setup for this purpose or any kind of comment really?
08:07<dr|z3d>darrob: Sure, tightvncserver is porbably your best bet.
08:08<dr|z3d>You'll need to ensure you're loading your DE session.. ~/.vnc/xstartup is the file you'll need to edit. I usually whack xfce4-session. xfce4-desktop and xfce4-panel in there, just to be sure.

22:52<Noturno99>how can I configure my web server to access out of my local network?
22:52<Noturno99>I have no-ip account
22:53<bja>Noturno99: you need to poke with your adsl router
22:53<bja>you have to forward port 80 to your server
22:53<Noturno99>yes, i did it

22:53<Noturno99>my network is this: one adsl router -> switch -> wifi router -> server linux debian
22:54<Noturno99>do you understand?
22:54<Noturno99>forward adsl router to wifi router and wifi router to my pc
22:54<Noturno99>port 80
22:55<bja>yes, but it is indeed irrelevant, you get one ip for your server, as long as your adsl router forwards port 80 to the ip of your debian server you should be ok
22:55<Noturno99>but in no-ip, what I have to do?
22:55<bja>read their docs?
22:56<Noturno99>what configuration have I to do in no-ip? put the adsl's ip ( or I have to put the real ip??
22:57<bja>Noturno99: no-ip is a dns service which makes your url point to your ip. If you don't follow their rules, ... make a wild guess on what will happen
22:57<bja>Noturno99: none

22:58<bja>is it the one you are doing the irc?
22:58<Noturno99>with adsl router? it is, is it??

23:12<bja>Noturno99: their program sends a ping to one of their servers with a code. When they decode the full ping message they know it is from your server and what ip it comes from. Then they update their dns server which does the actual translation
