03:13<TinyAmitz>how to cancel the 'checking root file system' in squeeze? Ctrl+c used to work in lenny, but if i ctrl+c squeeze the root fs will be mounted read only :-/

03:15<TinyAmitz>i'm on battery and i have a program to finish :-/. And yeah, it's not supposed to check fs while on battery.
03:15<mjt>actually it does not look there
03:15<mjt>(on battery or not that is)
03:16<mjt>why it is checking the fs?
03:16<TinyAmitz>oh, i remember seeing a message like that..
03:16<jm_>it does in lenny
03:16<TinyAmitz>The usual has been mounted 27 times without being checked, check forced.
03:16<mjt># Disabled AC power check until fsck can be told to only check the

03:17<jm_>right, so a change in squeeze
03:17-!-ant [] has joined #debian
03:18<TinyAmitz>so is there a way to skip it? I hope my battery lives longer than the check. If i run out of battery before fs finish checking, the fs won't be disturbed right? Since checking is done by mounting the fs read only?
03:19<mjt>checking is done before mounting it
03:19<mjt>if it's anything but roo
03:19<mjt>fsck looks at /dev/sd..., ie the device, not the mounted filesystem
03:19-!-mac_4010 [] has joined #debian
03:20<mjt>but why it is checking your fs?
03:20<jm_>because it has exceeded max. mount count
03:20<mjt>it's one of the possibilities
03:20<mjt>one can cancel it and use tune2fs (or whatever for a fs in question) to change that
03:21<mjt>if its' mount count
03:21<mjt>it it checks the fs because it's corrupt, well, better let it to finish
03:21<jm_><TinyAmitz> The usual has been mounted 27 times without being checked, check forced.
03:21<TinyAmitz>it's root. I don't know the consequence of your last sentence about /dev mjt

03:22<mjt>if it's on sda1
03:23<mjt>(mount will tell you)

03:25<Ikarus>TinyAmitz: it should skip the check on battery
03:25<mjt>it doesn't

21:39<twiggz>why do you need nero?
21:39<twiggz>why not use k3b or brasero or xfburn?
21:39<twiggz>or graveman or any number of other apps..
21:41<Roofus901>well, what bothers me isn't nero, but that dma isn't enabled
21:41<Roofus901>and that i can't enable it
21:41<Roofus901>is that just an issue with nero?
21:42<twiggz>since nero is most likely not in any debian repositories, anyone here will probably tell you that you are on your own with that one.
21:42<Roofus901>gotcha, i'll try k3b and see if dma works with that then
21:42<Roofus901>because terminal is telling me that it definately supports many dma and udma modes
21:43<Roofus901>also twiggz, i'm using nero mainly because my dvd collection is mostly .nrg' there a package i can get to convert them to say iso

22:05<twiggz>i use gnome-terminal in openbox...
22:05<twiggz>my second choice would be terminator...but terminator needs either gnome-terminal or xcompmgr to be i might as well use gnome-terminal since i use all gtk2 apps anyway so there is no real heavy deps that i wont need right?
22:06<twiggz>xcompmgr is a hoggy, buggy piece of laggy crap. I hate it.

22:07<gpm>sure... for transparency i just use compiz though

22:07<gpm>but in truth i don't use transparency at all
22:07<twiggz>i have no use for compiz or compiz-fusion..flipping a cube makes me feel retarded and like i have nothing more productive to do.
22:08<gpm>it makes me feel awesome
22:08<gpm>to each her own
22:09<twiggz>Not to mention I dont use gnome, xfce4, or kde compiz /compiz-fusion is not useable for me. openbox is quite sufficient and provides enough candy.
22:10<twiggz>I do like elive linux ...which is debian lenny basically with a newer kernel and some other mods...and their E17 + ecomorph (e17 compiz-fusion) is the complete shit...
22:11<twiggz>tried e17+ecomorph on normal debian testing....went over like a fart in a space suit.
22:13<twiggz>E17 is almost just as easy on resources as openbox or any other minimalist wm ....and its faster than even xfce4...or lxde...and provides lots of eyecandy that doesnt require a fancy video card.
22:14<twiggz>for a full de....its much faster than xfce, lxde, kde, and gnome.
