01:28<r00t>WHY WONT ANYONE HELP
01:29<jm_>you use debian packages if you can't fix compiler errors
01:29<r00t>no
01:29<r00t>debian kernels SUCK
01:29<r00t>they have no grsecurity
01:29<dr|z3d>I'd hazard a guess that you won't be getting help anytime soon if you carry on LIKE THAT.
01:29<r00t>no new features
01:30<r00t>I wasn't getting any help before
01:30<r00t>wouldn't be a change
01:30<jm_>so all's good then
01:30<r00t>been here for hours and hours
01:30<r00t>you're fucking dicks
01:30<r00t>assholes
01:30<dr|z3d>Way to go when you're looking for help. *laughs*

01:32<r00t>and you don't help me anyway
01:32<r00t>you don't give a fuck
01:33<r00t>you've helped no one
01:33<r00t>you just idle here
01:33<r00t>you couldn't help if you wanted to because you don't know enough about the kernel
01:33<jm_>you're right
01:33<r00t>I made some of the needed RealTek wireless staging drivers modules instead
01:33<dr|z3d>Carry on insulting members of this channel and see how much help you receive.

01:34<r00t>but I need those drivers
01:34<r00t>guess my wireless won't work :/

11:46<timebandi>Hey there :) I need some help, please. I'm using Debian. I removed 2 network cards yesterday and started up the system. Later that day I put back the network cards and now I can't get any network card to work. The network cards are loaded into wrong names etc. Even I change or delete the file in /etc/udev it does not work. I really don't want to reinstall the system. Is there a way to reset ALL network configurations etc and beg

Even if I accept the order of the networkcards and changes their settings in /etc/interfaces they still don't work. Seems like there is some information for them stored somewhere else? I have tried the Debian install cd and it detects the networkcards and they do work then configured du

11:50<ryan22>this is a long shot, and someone might come up with a much better solution
11:51<ryan22>but how big is your install?
11:51<ryan22>im thinking a good bet is to make a live cd with remastersys and reinstalling from that
11:51<dli_>timebandi, remove repeated rules, and edit names manually, or you simply remove all rules
11:52<ryan22>this would purge all your network config files and keep most of your existing install in tact

11:55<ryan22>timebandi: here's a good guide on setting up network manger to mange your connection: http://wiki.debian.org/NetworkManager
11:55<dli_>timebandi, no, you just remove the rules within the file: 70-persistent-net.rules, and reboot
11:55<koollman>timebandi: after a reboot ? what did you got ?

23:16<kop>!tell acovrig about errors
23:17<acovrig>kop, that is it, when I boot, it says "Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format" and "Press any key to continue..." I do and it takes me to grub
23:18<acovrig>kop, this started when I ran `ln -s dir1 root` given I was trying to symlink dir1 to root of ./, but I guess that didn't work (I forgot to use full paths)
23:19<kop>acovrig: Sounds like the bios is trying various boot options, and one of them is not a valid executable.
23:19<acovrig>Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
23:19<kop>acovrig: So, you get that message after grub, and then it sends you back to grub?
23:19<acovrig>kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-486 root=/dev/hda1 ro quiet
23:19<acovrig>yes
23:20<acovrig>with standard and (single-user mode)
23:21<kop>acovrig: Sounds like you messed up your filesystem and grub can't find the kernel. You could try to enter the grub command line at boot and modify the command line so it finds the kernel and/or initramfs. Or you could just boot off a cd and fix it. The install cd has a good rescue mode. Or use something else.
23:22<acovrig>how do I undo `ln -s dir1 root`?
23:22<kop>acovrig: What directory were you in when you issued the command?

23:22<kop>acovrig: That's exactly what you typed?

23:26<acovrig>kop, I was in /dir1 and I typed `ln -s dir2 root`, I meant `ln -s /dir1/dir2 /dir1/root`
23:26<kop>acovrig: It's not clear how that would have messed up your boot process. Especially because there is no /dir1 or /dir2 in /. You might possibly mess up /root root's home directory, but not really because there's not a sub directory.
23:26<acovrig>kop, I made those dirs
23:27<kop>acovrig: What version of debian?

23:48<kop>acovrig: Get a shell and look to see what's going on. You may need to mount the other fs' too.

23:50<acovrig>does anyone know what `ln -s dir2 root` in /dir1 do, given /dir1 & /dir1/dir2 exits?
