#debian IRC Logs for 2010-06-03

---Logopened Thu Jun 03 00:00:14 2010
00:00<edbian>doug, Yes but linux and Debian are not the same
00:00<edbian>In most cases I don't think Linux and mobile phone Linux are the same
00:01<edbian>If I can't have a terminal and the root password I don't really count it as linux
00:02<doug>well, in most cases you can get into them and reinstall the base OS and have those features
00:02<doug>just depends on the phone
00:02<doug>and weather or not it's been done yet
00:03<edbian>ic
00:03<edbian>Thanks for the info!
00:04<doug>at least with linux phones

03:17<larsie>Hi. How to trouble shoot my wireles card? I've RT2561/RT61 PCI wlan. I can set static IP on device, but cannot ping other than card itself, and eth0 on disk, not even gw. I can do 'iwlist wlan0 scanning' and search for other Wireless cells, AP, but cannot manually connect them, nor get IP from over DHCP. I'm running lenny, 2.6.26. rt61pci module is [m] in config. it should be loaded. any clues?

11:54<dpkg>sid is the <unstable> version of Debian. Sid is the destructive kid in Toy Story. It is NOT an acronym, but is sometimes backronymed Still In Development anyway. Sid will never be released. See also <sid faq> <unstable>.

Also combine with exclamation marks for added wow-ity factor. (wow!!!) :)

13:13<jesperj>from http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-howto/ch4.en.html

23:37<ismael>halp! I use voice chat programs (mumble, teamspeak) and they now pass the sound output to the sound input and so I generate huge amounts of echo. I have no idea what I have changed other than recently having upgraded to KDE4 :/ could that be it?

23:47<se7en>cesurasean: how did you "find" a xorg.conf, to generate a xorg.conf file for your box do stop X and do # Xorg -configure This will generate an X11 configuration skeleton file in the /root directory called xorg.conf.new you can than cp
23:50<cesurasean>se7en, will that autodetect my hardware? the first time X ran, it was sorta blurry as well...
23:50-!-arw [~familia@190.24.91.25] has quit [Quit: arw]
23:51<se7en>yes but you have to stop X
23:51<cesurasean>i have stopped X.
23:52<cesurasean>i am rebooting the machine each time
23:52<cesurasean>which "Section" is giving me these errors?
23:52<cesurasean>which "Section" inside xorg.conf is giving me these errors. Let me rephrase.
23:53<se7en>probably the one with the screen resolution
23:54<se7en>check with xrandr what your graphic card can do and adjust the xorg.conf
23:56<se7en>and you don't need to reboot all the time just restart X via /etc/init.d/kdm or gdm if you use gnome start/stop/restart
