00:00<twiggz>Since I have not said anything offtopic for a few days..I will say that my dvdrip of THE BOOK OF ELI damn owns. Its a great damn movie.
00:00-!-dvs [] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
00:01<twiggz>I could have had a cam much much sooner...but i wait for a good dvdrip of everything..
00:04-!-edbian [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:05<reklipz>so wait, you were complaining about someone mentioning #ubuntu, but boasting about piracy is ok?
00:05-!-GhostlyDeath [] has joined #debian
00:06<PovAddict>well he did say he's intoxicated
00:06<reklipz>Ah yes.
00:07-!-gnugr [] has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
00:07<twiggz>yes, thats exactly the case.
00:07-!-chitchat [] has joined #debian
00:08<GhostlyDeath>Hello, I have an ARM system but I'm having a problem with socket stuff, When any normal user tries to access a local ( or remote host whether it be on the LAN or on the internet, they only get "socket: Permission denied", whereas root doesn't have this problem? Is there any way to fix this?
00:09<twiggz>since ubuntu is basically nothing more than a debian sid snapshot and a nvidia driver installer with a point and click installer for stupid people.....I dont understand why there are still folks in here trying to discuss ubuntu..
00:10<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you're trying to access something on a port < 1024.
00:10<twiggz>not that debian doesnt have its own gui installer...*shrug*
00:10<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: Mostly
00:10<twiggz>so that makes ubuntu even less innovative..
00:10<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: Let me try a higher port
00:10-!-pos [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:11<twiggz>i understand that #ubuntu is a zoo...thats not #debian problem..
00:13<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: Using ssh to get to a server hosted on the high 30ks failed with Permission Denied
00:15-!-ryan22 [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:16<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: interesting. You're trying to connect() with the ARM platform, not accept() or listen(), is what it sounds like, is that correct?
00:17<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: yes
00:17<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: If that's the case, then the <1024 issue shouldn't be, as tcp will pick ports > 1024 for the client end.
00:17<GhostlyDeath>That's what I was thinking
00:17<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: I'm at the end of my rope for help then, sorry. I'm interested though because I have a BeagleBoard I've yet to play with. Are you running Debian on the ARM I assume?
00:18<reklipz>I'd be interested in your development environment/setup/workflow if it's not too much of a hassle.
00:18<GhostlyDeath>It's a WM8050
00:18-!-NickyP [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:18<twiggz>Mobile devices will be the death of everything...
00:18<GhostlyDeath>One of those small 7" books that don't have a kernel
00:19<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: It might be a file permission issue
00:19-!-alephnull [~alok@] has joined #debian
00:19<GhostlyDeath>But I do not know which file it would correspond to
00:20<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: That could be. Me either.
00:20<twiggz>Mobile devices = a bunch of tweeting idiots that think people give a shit about when they go to the can or when they are getting into their car..
00:20<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: I just can't hwclock, otherwise the system explodes
00:20<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: kernel goes insane
00:20<GhostlyDeath>So my clock is set to local time but Linux thinks it's UTC
00:21-!-ryan22 [] has joined #debian
00:24<twiggz>another problem with mobile devices is that they are eating up ipv4 addys...
00:25<GhostlyDeath>How are they doing that?
00:25<twiggz>are you an imbecile?
00:26<reklipz>twiggz: I'm pretty sure the kernel has support for ipv6
00:26<twiggz>what do you mean "How are they doing that?"
00:26<reklipz>it's up to the carriers to support it now...
00:26<twiggz>reklipz: just because the kernel supports it, which it does....doesnt mean isps do.
00:27<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: Afaik the kernel I'm using is android based
00:27<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: I figured as much, given that thread.
00:27<GhostlyDeath>twiggz: If they are on the internet using mobile networks, they are most likely given dynamic IPs
00:27<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: You may have better luck asking the android channels then
00:27-!-pos [~mark@] has joined #debian
00:27<GhostlyDeath>based on area and location
00:27<twiggz>ipv4 addresses mostly.
00:28-!-chomwitt [] has joined #debian
00:28<reklipz>twiggz: but it's still up to verizon to purchase the addy space
00:28<reklipz>twiggz: or other isp...
00:28-!-stygian [] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
00:28<GhostlyDeath>plus they can always NAT mobile phones
00:29<twiggz>that doesnt help the fact that ipv4 addys are becoming scarce :)
00:29<reklipz>twiggz: correct. soon, the isps will start selling all of their extra ipv4 space on the black market
00:29<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: Know if they got a channel here?
00:30<reklipz>Time to install Windows...
00:30<reklipz>doesn't look like it
00:30<PovAddict>GhostlyDeath: probably not here but in freenode
00:30<reklipz>I would try freenode
00:30<GhostlyDeath>Thought this was freenode for a sec
00:30<reklipz>Need to auth to services on freenode btw
00:30<GhostlyDeath>I'm unaffiliated
00:32-!-key [] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
00:32<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: Mask
00:32-!-NickyP [] has joined #debian
00:32<twiggz>Probably not a "black market" everyone with an ipv4 addy already would most likely be grandfathered in...
00:32<GhostlyDeath>Lilo gave me the mask
00:32<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: I don't understand, no worries though.
00:32<GhostlyDeath>reklipz: If you whois me
00:33<twiggz> idiot that left his nickname, shell accounts and everything else with the same login and pass ?
00:33<twiggz>then he got ran over.
00:33<PovAddict>don't laugh of the dead
00:33<reklipz>GhostlyDeath: ah, I see.
00:34<twiggz>Only an idiot leaves an oline at *@* using the same passwords and logins as his nick, and almost every ircd account freenode had...

05:30<toabctl>taggart, do you know?;)
05:30<toabctl>taggart, ok. now i know. it's a request to package software, right?
05:30<ansgar>toabctl: Do you want the package to be uploaded to the official Debian archive?
05:31<toabctl>ansgar, yes. i already packaged openlayers and i have just one lintian warning left

05:32<toabctl>ansgar, i'll upload the package to but i want to fill a ITP bug first to be sure there's no warning left. how to fill this bug? i tried to use "reportbug" but there's no option to fill a ITP bug.
05:32<taggart>toabctl: it's more of a notice to other people that you are working on it so that people won't duplicate effort, that's why it's a good idea to file one and why lintian is telling you that since you were good about filing one then you should have the package close it
05:32<taggart>toabctl: in reportbug it's a WNPP bug, then it will give you the option of selecting ITP
05:33<ansgar>toabctl: "reportbug wnpp"
05:33<toabctl>what means wnpp ?
05:33<ansgar>toabctl: Work-Needing and Prospective Packagesm
05:33<toabctl>ah.ok. thanks ansgar, taggart
05:34<taggart>it's sort of a hack to use the debian bts to track the status of packaging

BackTrack is a Linux distribution based on <Ubuntu> Intrepid (as of BackTrack 4), previously <SLAX>. 22:10<cthuluh>why don't you upgrade to testing ?
22:10<Ouro>hm, any idea why debian sees < 1 GB of RAM, even though 8 GB is installed?
22:11<cthuluh>not a common problem oO
22:11<Ouro>yeah, very strange
22:11<Ouro>i could understand 4 GB, but not this

22:12<Ouro>anyway, i think that the default kernel has bigmem, so this should not happen
22:13<cthuluh>dvs: I don't need it, thanks ,)
22:13<cthuluh>the default kernel does not have the bigmem config
22:13<Ouro>are you sure? this has always installed properly before
22:13<dvs>oops wrong person
22:14<cthuluh>well, perhaps on a recent kernel, but not in stable
22:15<Ouro>this is actually etch
22:15<Ouro>but last time i installed etch from the CD it definitely did not have this problem
22:15<Ouro>it was a different cd though

22:50<cthuluh>I think that's a x86_64, so that's normal
