02:59<jazzmans>thanks freezer, I'll go re-read /etc/fstab. I'm running the machine now off a live linux cd.
02:59<freezer>or is it encrypted? /etc/crypttab
02:59<jazzmans>nope, not encrypted.
03:00<fxiny>2 tera ? hours ? i'm not surpised . it took 10 minutes on a 10GB home here . old hardware here
03:01<fxiny>jazzmans: i have a spare maintenance partition for fscking
03:01<jazzmans>one of the other 2 TB drives took 40 minutes, and it only had a couple hundred gig free. ext4, and supposedly the ext4 has a faster fsck after the initial, but this one drive is hanging, & I need my system back up.

03:08<fxiny>that's how i noticed rsync can be dangerous , i filed a bug/whishlist report . runnig rsync --del can delete the good backup file
03:09<fxiny>i mean , sometimes crap old hardware can help in making a better system

03:12<fxiny>in my case , the file corruption happened before i rebooted , and i rsynced part of my home with the corruption on loosing the backup copy , i get a previos version back because i run rdiff-backup as well . so , this things can happen even with new good hardware . if they fix rsync woun't be bad

17:39<dpkg>udev has the ability to statically rename Ethernet cards based on MAC address since version 0.090. The addresses are configured in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules (Lenny, Squeeze) or /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules (Etch). If you want the mappings to change, edit the respective file. To apply changes: "udevadm trigger" ("udevtrigger" on Etch) or reload the relevant driver module. See also <forcedeth mac>, <udev>.

20:09<ryanakca>Is there a small DNS server that serves different records based on the IP by which it is accessed? What I'm trying to do is setup my laptop so that it accesses work's apt-cache when I'm on work's network and ftp.debian.org when I'm at home. The best way I've thought of is having a DNS server on my laptop that serves the alias apt.repo.localdomain -> apt.workdomain.tld when accessed at 127.0.0.1 and apt.repo.localdomain -> ftp.debian.org when accessed at ...
