00:33<xjjk>neosmatrix: OK, so the problem you want to solve, is that your disks are spinning down too quickly
00:34<xjjk>nevermind powertop/etc then
00:34-!-prem [~prem@] has joined #debian
00:34<xjjk>neosmatrix: do you have laptop-mode-tools installed? they have a part that configures how quickly to spin down disks
00:34<xjjk>barring that, take a look at hdparm
00:35<xjjk>there's an option that lets you set the "sensitivity" (?) to how quickly the disks should be spun down

01:31<whirl>chealer: I believe it connects to this other non-valid (?) connection that was used before in my building
01:31<chealer>whirl: I don't know network-manager, but as far as I know pppoeconf is basically the only option.
01:31<whirl>it changed to pppoe so Ive been trying to get it work
01:31<whirl>alright Ill try that one then
01:32<whirl>right now Im in internet cafe trying to figure this out
01:32<chealer>whirl: did you try pppoeconf already?
01:32<whirl>no, not yet

01:38<jm_>whirl: I copied the original provider scripts and edited those
01:39<jm_>one other thing is that it might require CHAP so you need to edit chap-secrets too
01:39<whirl>jm_: theres the problem
01:39<whirl>these guys I tried to get it working didnt even recognize the word "username"
01:39<whirl>I need to figure this out my self

01:43<jm_>pppoeconf just creates the files like pap-secrets, it won't help you if you don't know the username/password etc.
01:44<whirl>I know those
01:44<whirl>Wait, Ill just check that txt file first

02:01<jak>hi i want to disable the cdrom in my lenny system. for that i added the blacklist in the modprobe. It actually not loaded the module. But when i try to mount with the mount command it is mounting. what i do
02:02<neosmatrix>xjjk: it seems that I solved my problem with hdparm -S0 /dev/xxx against all raid members.
02:02<neosmatrix>till now kde runs smooth :) thx for the help
02:02<xjjk>neosmatrix: great. I think that turns off spindown completely
02:02<xjjk>neosmatrix: BTW, the "bug" here is in GNOME, IMHO
02:02<jm_>whirl: well I suppose, but it's there in the readme anyway (we know how many people read those though)
02:02<whirl>jm_: thats my point
02:02<whirl>I didnt even know about these
02:03<jm_>jak: which module did you blacklist and how?
02:03<jm_>jak: and why would you want to disable it anyway?
02:03<jm_>whirl: it's a good practice to learn with Debian - check /usr/share/doc/<pkg>
02:03<jak>greped the lsmod for cdrom and i added this entry in the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
02:03<jm_>which entry?

03:26<ao2>hi I have some problems with avahi after latest avahi-daemon update. For instance, when I run "avahi-browse -D" I get "Failed to create client object: Daemon not running", but the daemon is running. Any ideas? I also tried stracing "avahi-browse" and it seems to have problem with /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket

23:09<ansgar>marioxcc: If you want to argue about simutrans again, the old Artistic license is still DFSG-free.
