02:22<piksu>cahoot: didn't understand a word. :I
02:22<piksu>Im at work trying to install security camera
02:23<cahoot>piksu: is it a pci device or usb?
02:23<piksu>its a wireless device
02:23<piksu>which should connect to wireless router
02:24<piksu>wireless cam should be sending info to d-link wireless router.
02:24<piksu>and the d-link router should be sending info to pc
02:24<piksu>but the problem is, i can't make it work wirelessly
02:24<piksu>with wire connected from the cam to router it worked
02:25<cahoot>piksu: so it gets an IP from the router?
02:25<piksu>yes.
02:25<cahoot>piksu: even as wireless?
02:25<piksu>no, I can't connect to it as wirless
02:25<piksu>its not the same
02:26<piksu>I can't really find it at all when its wireless
02:26<cahoot>ok so it's a camera - router problem?

02:31<cahoot>piksu: I've really no clue - but can your debian system by itself connect to the camera wireless?
02:32<cahoot>(just to make sure the cams wifi really 'works')
02:32<jmarsden>piksu: If the router is doing DHCP server duty, set it to always give the camera the same IP (based on the camera MAC address). Effectiveky that results in the camera having a "static" (unchanging) IP address on your wireless network.

13:45<dpkg>aptitude has more advanced conflict/dependency resolution and will often find a solution where apt-get gives up. It can be used from the command line like apt-get plus an interactive resolver makes it much easier to recover from broken dependencies. It has advanced search capabilities (see <aptitude search>).

14:26<dbldtx>I installed the nvidia drivers "the debian way" on lenny. Squeeze was completely EFFED for me - back when 'nvidia + sqeeze' was a factoid. The easiest way for me to get nvidia was to dist-[down]grade to lenny. Now I'm back on Sqeeze.

14:27<dpkg>[nvidia m-a] For Lenny and Squeeze users. Ensure you have <non-free sources> added. "aptitude install module-assistant && m-a a-i nvidia-kernel". After successful module compilation, "aptitude install nvidia-glx nvidia-xconfig && nvidia-xconfig -o /etc/X11/xorg.conf". See also <nvidia>.

19:40<abrotman>!free ram
19:40<dpkg>Unlike information, your computer's memory does *not* want to be free. Free RAM is wasted RAM! Linux tries to use free physical memory for caching files from disk which speeds up disk access considerably. Linux releases RAM from these caches if programs need it. If you want to know how much physical memory the free(1) tool says you have left for program use, it's 'free' + 'buffers' + 'cache'. Also ask me about <swapwake>.
19:40<mf>ship: no problem, thanks. I'll take a look on iptables code ;-)

22:31<sney>the nvidia instructions generally work. if you are using lenny then the driver may be too old; there's a link somewhere on wiki.debian.org listing which geforce series are covered by which driver versions
22:32<MaXim>3d acceleration is working
22:32<MaXim>but through AIGLX only

22:32<sney>if it's a specific functionality you're looking for, it might be a feature missing from the proprietary nvidia module

22:33<abrotman>the other one is dead
22:33<sney>nvidia doesn't really care about supporting everything under linux, so long as opengl support mostly works
