00:22<zendeavor>that doesn't appear to clone partitions
00:25<zendeavor>seems to be useful for cloning individual files, or cd/dvd
00:25<zendeavor>but internal partitions, not so much
00:25<jpinx-eeepc>zendeavor: it clones whole devices
00:26<franki^>It can clone partitions; I'm not saying it's the best tool for this job, but it's definitely possible
00:26<zendeavor>i tried with clonezilla already, but for some reason it wrote all the clone partitions as raw data, which grub can't boot
00:26<zendeavor>this is a sensitive job, i want the best tool available
00:26<zendeavor>i *thought* that was clonezilla, but it just gipped me

03:42<smv>flaccid, there are some tasks that might install what you need. read man tasksel again. see that there is ' /usr/share/tasksel/*.desc and /usr/local/share/tasksel/*.desc' that are used to define tasks. look there, choose the tasks that you want and install them via tasksel itself or via aptitude. bear in mind that would be beter to chose and install them at once, as aptitude might chose different applications for a given task, depending on the dependencies, if that
03:42<smv>makes sense. if you end with an app that you don't want just use aptitude to remove it.
03:42<flaccid>thanks

06:06<locklace>everything else in amd64 works fine

07:01<austinium>hi everyone, iam trying to learn how LiveCDs work, i got the point where u have read up on union mounting which allows the LiveCD's read only file system to be used along with a RAM disk, i've read that commonly used directories like /home are placed in the RAM disk...
07:02<austinium>iam not able to figure out how LiveCDs allow packages to be installed on the Live file system
07:03<austinium>are the directories like /bin also copied onto the RAM disk?

07:13<ansgar>austinium: I think they use aufs or similar. There is a read-only filesystem with another r/w filesystem (in RAM in case of live cds) on top. Write requests are redirected to the rw file system, unchanged files come from the ro filesystem below.
07:13<ansgar>imperia: It has been frozen some weeks ago.

09:50<michalxo>most of the people on debian are very "conservative" and use stable software rather new (with problems)

10:25<johnfg>When I ran update-grub, it found win xp pro and added it no problem. However, it didn't find the lenny info, and didn't take it correctly from my entries in /etc/grub.d/40_custom.

15:05<eightyeight>if it's true hardware raid, not fake hardware raid, then i would go with that. and if it's an intel board, then it's likely supported
15:05<imperia>actually i haven't checked yet what the mainboard is.. but i think its intel(raid is ICH9R i think). currectly it have opensuse installed with software raid but i am planning to go debian. and i wonder if i should continue using software raid or hardware raid
15:05<mjt>intel calls it 'matrix raid' or something like that
15:06<imperia>i guess i will stay with software then!
15:06<mjt>and yes it's not hardware raid

16:38<smv>Dym, also I'd stay away from Solaris for a wile, but that is just me, unless you already have it installed and functional. On the other hand, any other unix like OS is quite simple to change, especially if you can get the sources, gnu/linux and freebsd having the most complete documentation in this area but also quite helpful communities, and this will allow you to manage better the system to reduce power in some situations.

23:41<jaimesilva>greetings!
23:41<chals>i'm looking for some advice on how to properly set up clamav for use by a chrooted apache server
23:42<chals>is there a guide out there?
23:42<chals>hi jaimesilva
23:42<jaimesilva>I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 with an intel GM965/GL960 video card. The composite TV output was working fine but today it is in black & white, how can I fix it? The TV is NTSC, any clues? thanks
23:43<jaimesilva>I have already upgraded the driver to unstable
23:45<chals>no idea... i don't mess with video settings
