01:15<rijo>vamsi: you need to edit /etc/my.cnf
01:16<rijo>look for the line that says 'bind-address' and change 127.0.0.1 to the address of your server
01:16<vamsi>thanks..I have done it
01:16<vamsi>but how to grant permissions ?
01:16-!-pos [~mark@58.163.110.237] has joined #debian
01:17<vamsi>I am able to update , the permissions to 1 ip , but how do I allow 2 Ip's
01:17<vamsi>can I add an array of IP's there ?

01:18<rijo>the ip you add in that file is not other ip's your allowing its the ip of the machine mysql is running on so it will allow remote connections from other ip's
01:19<rijo>from there you can use sql commands to restrict each user to specific databases etc.
01:20<rijo>...and you can restrict each users connection to one ip
01:20<rijo>the machine they are connecting from
01:20<vamsi>ok..got the point..but I need a same user and a same databse accessible by 2 diff ip's ( one from default server IP, and other from a diff continent )
01:20<vamsi>I am able to give permissions to 1 ip my mysql commands..
01:20<rijo>i think you can still do that

01:22<rijo>hmmm not sure then
01:22<vamsi>thanks for your time

01:26<rijo>you could also set up two different users for the two ip's
01:29<vamsi>but I need access to same DB, we have to grant permissions to database to be accessed from remote Host..
01:29<rijo>so use two different user names and map them to the two different ip's of the remote hosts
01:30<rijo>and grant the appropriate permissions to each
01:31<vamsi>Thanks..I will try
01:33<rijo>GRANT ALL on db.* TO 'user'@'xx.xx.xx.xx' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';
01:33<rijo>use a different username for each remote ip and it should work
01:35<vamsi>it's working..thank you very much :)

03:26-!-quiritius [~quiritius@109.86.40.114] has joined #debian
03:27<dutchfish>sia: first, why etch and not stable? there are mem encryption tools, but are you talking about a complete envirenment and if so why?

03:30<sia>actually it's an old setup
03:30<dutchfish>sia: also rem that cpu's dont care about encryption, they just execute code ;)
03:30<sia>dutchfish: it's running zimbra on citrix xen , and it's from the templates
03:31<sia>dutchfish: the reason that i want to do so is to make sure that the setup is unusable even if someone else has physical access to the image , ex, mounting it elsewhere
03:31<sia>dutchfish: do you suggest something else ?
03:31<dutchfish>sia: xen citrix has already good shielding between virtual instances, if thats what you are after, disk encryption (read: virtual diskspace encryption) is another cup of tea

03:32<sia>dutchfish: what i'm looking for is to encrypt the disk within the vm , not on the host
03:33<dutchfish>sia: that can be done within the vm within its disk instance, np
03:33<dutchfish>sia: but you only win 1 thing, ie worse performance, i doubt that it brings much better security

03:35-!-Miguel [~miguel@77.Red-88-25-36.staticIP.rima-tde.net] has left #debian []
03:35<dutchfish>sia: something like vm -> iscsii -> encryption layer -> backend
03:35<sia>dutchfish: so even if the disk is attachet to a live disk the root/grub pass is unrecovarable right ?
03:35<dutchfish>sia: correct
03:35<sia>dutchfish: do you have any refrences to suggest ?
03:35<dutchfish>(if setup correctly)
03:36<dutchfish>sia: maybe not the only one, but i always liked this one http://www.hermann-uwe.de/blog/howto-disk-encryption-with-dm-crypt-luks-and-debian
03:36<sia>dutchfish: thank you dutchfish :)
03:37<sia>dutchfish: how about truecrypt , have you ever tried it ?
03:37<dutchfish>sia: but you would be of much better with encryption on the backend
03:37<dutchfish>sia: i have expirimented with it and left it, i nowadays encrypt on the backend, much more secure and much better performance
03:38<dutchfish>sia: one more thing, in all what you do, dont forget disaster recovery methods ;)

04:41<ansgar>DimitryKakadu: The .config is installed in /boot.
04:42<ansgar>DimitryKakadu: After you add a deb-src entry, you have to run apt-get update. You don't see anything before.
04:42<ansgar>DimitryKakadu: And the source package is called linux-2.6. linux-source-* are also binary packages.

15:15<Puppet-Master>hi everybody
15:16<Puppet-Master>Long time ago, I used to configure my X server using /etc/X11/xorg.conf but now the X server seems to configure itself automatically.
15:17<cthuluh>starting with squeeze, yes
15:17<Puppet-Master>how can i tell to use a specific driver instead of the one it tries to load?
15:17<cthuluh>writing a minimal xorg.conf with just the declaration of the section that contains the driver should be enough
15:18<cthuluh>I can't test it though
15:18<charun>you can still use the xorg.conf file
15:18<Puppet-Master>but will the rest of the auto config still work? :o
15:18<charun>for me it worked

15:20<jhutchins_lt>cthuluh: Actually, lenny will do it too.
15:20<jhutchins_lt>Puppet-Master: You can also generate a file with X --configure and modify that.
15:20<charun>but it might be that you have to disable the nouveau driver first
15:21<cthuluh>jhutchins_lt: didn't know that, thanks for pointing this out
15:21<jhutchins_lt>Puppet-Master: X will use the driver specified in the xorg.conf file.
15:22<Puppet-Master>hum ok i'll give it a try
15:22<Puppet-Master>thank you
15:22<jhutchins_lt>squeeze has some problems with X, and there are general problems trying to keep up with the new nvidia drivers.

16:50<muep>the toolbar at the top is pretty useless, but it can be removed
16:51<muep>irssi certainly does not blink a thinklight without some ugly hackery
