11:00<jordanm>bo: I believe that unetbootin works with squeeze (but not lenny)
11:01<bo>like it says that it hold back the kernel package...
11:01<jordanm>!tell bo about udev squeeze

11:09<kl4q>ok, so what's wrong?
11:10<daenney>probably something in runsvdir which is what is started in /etc/runit/2
11:10<bo>btw... the reason for all this is cause I need to do some testing for my own gpl-project. And for this I am using a usb-ethernet device (cause I need 2 networkcards). so in Lenny this device has some problems. would you recommend directly to try sid or is it worth first trying Squeeze

19:07<Webuser>I have my server configured with a static IP and thats works all fine. I changed IP of my gateway router, so I changed this in the interfaces file of the server as well. now /etc/init.d/networking restart like all tutorials explain does not work.
19:08-!-nb_ [~nb@nb.user.oftc.net] has joined #debian
19:08<Webuser>it does work, but it does not reload the interfaces file, because I cannot ping google for example
19:08<Webuser>what I did is write a bash script that does ifdown eth0 and ifup eth0
19:08<Webuser>this worked
19:09<cthuluh>and where is your problem?
19:09<Webuser>well, according to the tutorials /etc/init.d/networking restart should do the trick
19:09<cthuluh>/etc/init.d/networking restart is not a real good method
19:10<cthuluh>well, tutorials are tutorials
19:10<Webuser>ah ok... what do you recommend?
19:10<cthuluh>what you did
19:10<Webuser>lol ok.. the bash scripts is at the moment the best option?
19:10<Webuser>you do that as well?
19:10<cthuluh>no, I change my config by hand (not so often)
19:11<Webuser>but I do it by hand as well... how do you reload your config ?
19:11<cthuluh>ifup && ifdown 8)
19:12<cthuluh>I heard that /etc/init.d/networking restart was considered as deprecated, don't remember where

19:13<Webuser>well I just did the ifup && ifdown trick, but that only disabled my interface...

19:13<Webuser>that doesn't work for me

19:14<cthuluh>does it work or not? :)
19:14<cthuluh>oh wait
19:14<cthuluh>"ifup && ifdown" is not the complete command ;)
19:14<Webuser>haha thanks :P
19:14<Webuser>well thank god the server is in my room and I have 2 interfaces, 1 with DHCP. because this is a headless server
19:15<Webuser>what is the complete command ?
19:15<cthuluh>well, ifdown eth0; ifup eth0

19:16<Webuser>I tried ifdown eth0 && ifup eth0 on the command line, but that only disabled my interface
19:16<cthuluh>&& has a special meaning to your shell
19:16<cthuluh>it means "run the second command only if the first succeeded"
19:16<Webuser>ah ok ok
19:17<Webuser>yeah I should have stick with my bash script haha
19:17<cthuluh>all you need is "ifdown foo0; ifup foo0"
19:17<cthuluh>no need for a script ;)
19:18<cthuluh>of course, if the connection is closed after the "ifdown ...", the second command may not be run

19:25<paranoidphreak>hi everybody, i'm currently using squeeze that i had installed beginning of august when they officially froze it; right after installing it, i had created an image but now when i install the updates (over 400megs worth) and restart the computer, the screen becomes and stays blank right before the login screen. this happened about three weeks back, so, i had reloaded the image i had created. i have tried installing the updates about 4 days ago and
19:25<paranoidphreak>same issue. does anyone know how to get around this issue or it's a bug that still needs to be fixed?
