00:00<gnufan>steve_: it might break stuff - but then you probably realise that.
00:00<steve_>uh- i don't want it to break stuff

00:02<gnufan>steve_: go back to lenny then :) They call it testing and unstable for a reason.
00:02<cesurasean>gnufan, ive tried changing grub to read /dev/md0, instead of UID, and still no luck. root delay doesn't work either.
00:02<cesurasean>what could be my problem?
00:02<cesurasean>missing modules?
00:02<cesurasean>seems the bug is outlined here; https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/360378

00:08<steve_>should i just give up and switch to UBUNTU?
00:08<cesurasean>can anyone shed some light?
00:09<tomg>steve: probably you should install Netbeans from unstable on to squeeze if you want squeeze
00:09<tomg>steve: which I don't see a problem with

00:19<dondelelcaro>cesurasean: it means that you shouldn't be running webmin.
00:19<dondelelcaro>!webmin
00:19<dpkg>Webmin is a lame web-based interface for unsafe system administration for Unix. Check it out at http://webmin.com/ Remember, dondelelcaro *hates* webmin. Don't use their .debs, they are of extremely poor quality. See <free whcp> for alternatives.
00:21<cesurasean>eh, that was easy to fix. just had to remove the init.d file, and then put it back. :)

I have ssh setup already but I don't know what path to take to setup the server on the debian machine and what to use to connect to it from my work windows machine.
04:10<jm_>you can use vnc or stuff like freenx

04:29<shiznatix>at home I have my media server in my living room and my laptop in my bedroom (both debian). 11:39<petemc>!fixresolvconf
11:39<dpkg>To fix your /etc/resolv.conf: edit /etc/dhcp{,3}/dhclient.conf to include the nameservers you want to use (ask me about <override dns>). Alternatively, use <resolvconf> and specify the nameservers yourself: echo -e "nameserver a.b.c.d\nnameserver w.x.y.z" > /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base; resolvconf -u (where a.b.c.d and w.x.y.z are your ISPs nameservers). 19:44<bremner>apt doesn't have the concept of "purge for a few moments", and it doesn't understand third party packages (maybe some cleverness with equivs can help). So if you want to delete java, you need to remove the things that it depends on.

21:00<kop>sisk: If you install non-debian packages you're on your own making sure things work, are updated with security updates, etc. So, better depends on your goal.
21:01<kop>markstacey: You need to pastebin your X log.
21:01<sisk>I don't mind being on my own. I just want my games to work without having to dual boot.
21:02<markstacey>kop: ok
21:02<kop>sisk: The offical one will be newer, so "better", but you may have problems satisfying it's build dependencies.
