00:00<edbian>jordanm, Thanks
00:00-!-pabloveneg [~pablovene@] has joined #debian
00:00<edbian>My boot time is already great in squeeze
00:00-!-pabloveneg [~pablovene@] has quit []
00:01<jordanm>even better for wheezy if they move to systemd
00:01<jordanm>like.. considerably faster (atleast visably to the user)
00:02<edbian>How can I turn compiz off? metacity --replace& strangely did nothing.
00:04<tash>edbian install fusion-icon ;)

00:14<edbian>My browser is generally unresponsive. It feels like it's running on very old hardware. Flash works but is so slow and choppy it is unusable. When pages are loading the rest of the gui is unresponsive. Scrolling is choppy at best especially on complicated pages. I would think this is normal except that if I run any other disro from a live CD everything in the browser is smooth as glass. Any ideas?
00:15<edbian>I have a radeon 9550 running the radeon driver if it matters. This was a problem on lenny but it got worse in squeeze.
00:15<edbian>anne_nadieya, Please stop that.
00:16<edbian>You're just typing gibberish?
00:16<tash>edbian flash or Gnash ?
00:16<edbian>tash, I'm using adobe flash but gnash is the same way (or the video doesn't load at all)
00:17<edbian>Playing a flash video in vlc is perfect.
00:17-!-Exavion [] has quit [Quit: Dasvidaniya]
00:17<edbian>I've also tried chromium, swiftfox, and epiphany in addition to iceweasel. They all have the same problem. (some slightly worse than others)
00:17<kelvin>franki^: thanks what i want to do is try a KDE distro. I tried kubuntu but the computer became real slow. distrowatch debian as gnome by default
00:17<tash>edbian wich browser?
00:18<edbian>tash, I just listed them ^
00:18<edbian>kelvin, Just install KDE in Debian
00:19<franki^>kelvin: As far as I understand it, KDE is just as supported in Debian as Gnome is. But there are many other distros that "prefer" KDE, if that's what you want.
00:20<edbian>kelvin, openSuse handles KDE well I think
00:20<kelvin>franki^: right
00:20<franki^>kelvin: Also, if your computer isn't powerful enough to run KDE then it doesn't matter which distro you use.
00:20<kelvin>kde uses mjore resources than gnomje
00:21<franki^>Possibly, I'm not an expert, I don;t use either.
00:21<edbian>Nobody has any ideas for me?

04:30<vook>I'm embarrassed to say that I have been unable to boot into my debian for several weeks - I'm stuck in MacOS. When I boot to refit, and then to linux, it stalls (no operating system). I've booted to live cd, chrooted, and tried to reinstall grub, but grub says '/dev/sda does not look like an EFI partition.' Currently linux root is sda3 (usr, var, home; 5,6,7). HFS, sda2 - FAT16 (efi) sda1. Any ideas how to make this again bootable ?

05:56<jm_>r0ger: if you want a full blown solution look at fai, for manual intervention, try this:
05:56<jm_>!debian clone
05:56<dpkg>One method of cloning Debian installs is to take a current Debian machine that is set up with the packages you want and run the command "dpkg --get-selections > ~/selectionfile". Then, after the base install on other machines use that file and do: "dpkg --set-selections < ./selectionfile && apt-get dselect-upgrade". Also ask me about <aptitude clone>, <reinstall>, <things to backup>.
05:56<r0ger>okay i'll look at fai first ty

13:33<franki^>Talon__: You just need to replace the word "stable" with "testing" in your sources.list (Although, it's recommended to write "squeeze" rather than "testing" as otherwise it could cause some confusion with your system when Squeeze becomes stable)
13:33<dpkg>The list of repositories for installing packages is /etc/apt/sources.list and has lines like "deb http://ftp.<cc> lenny main" and "deb lenny/updates main" where <cc> is your country code. Be sure to run "aptitude update" after editing sources.list. Also see <mirrors> <apt-spy> <lenny security> <testing security> "man sources.list" and /usr/share/doc/apt/examples/sources.list
