07:07<kie27> greetings all, have been trying without success to fix a tablet cursor problem on a dual screen setup, the full problem description and my xorg.conf are here: http://pastebin.com/NLEWKwDk any help gratefully appreciated.

07:09<jm_>!fglrx
07:09<dpkg>[fglrx] "FireGL and Radeon for X", the AMD/ATI proprietary display driver for Radeon R5xx, R6xx, R7xx and Evergreen chipsets. As of fglrx-driver 1:9-4-1, no chipsets prior to the R600 series are supported; use <radeon> or <radeonhd> instead. The version in squeeze supports Xorg 7.5 (Xserver 1.7). To install, ask me about <fglrx one-liner lenny>, <fglrx one-liner squeeze> or see http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary. Note bug #595200.
07:09<jm_>no particular channel for that

07:12<babilen>And of course #xorg -- kie27 Sorry, but I am not sure how to configure this. Have you tried using an (almost) empty or even non-existing xorg.conf? You would use, for example, xrandr/grandr for the configuration. Gnome also comes with a screen configuration utility. I haven't dabbled with Xinerama configuration in my Xorg xonf and get dual screen setups working just fine with the aforementioned programs

13:51<apache_dummy>GDay, I am totally in a mess since I broke my apache2. I didn't know why I am doing this at all, but somebody asked me to do it and I feel kind of obliged.
13:52<apache_dummy>I tried to reinstall but this doesn't help me further. I guess I ruined my ports.conf by trying to make apache ssl-encrypted.
13:52<apache_dummy>Using apt-get to reinstall doesn't give me a new ports.conf even if i renamed the old one.
13:53<apache_dummy>The only notification i get is that apache action "start" failed.
13:53<apache_dummy>Can anyone help me?
13:54<amphi>!confmiss
13:54<dpkg>The reason you have to use dpkg --force-confmiss is because whenever your config files (<conffiles>) are gone, dpkg assumes you deleted them on purpose, and that you want them to stay deleted. You can also reinstall them using the following apt-get line: apt-get -o DPkg::Options::="--force-confmiss" --reinstall install <packagename>; or using aptitude, aptitude -o DPkg::Options::="--force-confmiss" reinstall <packagename>.

15:00<gencha>hello, what is the right place to ask stupid questions regarding .deb packaging?

15:07<mjt>!ubuntu
15:07<dpkg>Ubuntu is based on Debian, but it is not Debian, and it is unlikely to live up to Debian's standards (see <Debian policy>). Only Debian is supported on #debian. Use #ubuntu (irc.freenode.net) instead. Even if the channel happens to be less helpful, support for distributions other than Debian is offtopic on #debian. See also <based on debian>.

15:10<mjt>it may be buildable on derivates

19:31<icebrain>crazyb0y: no. But have you upgraded from etch to squeeze?

19:32<crazyb0y>not=now
19:33<mjt>still an interesting claim
19:33<crazyb0y>i had testing for too long, after that i changed it to squeeze
19:33<icebrain>oh, ok, then you upgraded to squeeze when lenny was release, probably
19:33<icebrain>because you kept with testing
19:33<crazyb0y>icebrain: yes
19:33<mjt>it was FAR less safe to follow squeeze all this time as it is now.
19:34<crazyb0y>i just want everything to be safe and secure =(
19:34<icebrain>yeah, that's why using codenames is better :)
19:34<icebrain>crazyb0y: Squeeze is frozen now, not far from stable
19:34<crazyb0y>icebrain: yes i read this
19:34<mjt>but upgrading to testing because you were hacked, instead of installing the security packages, sounds even more unsafe.
19:34<crazyb0y>few months ago
19:35<crazyb0y>mjt: yes i know this now
19:35<edbian>sudo deborphan returns a bunch of stuff. How do I get rid of all of it easily?
19:36<ompaul>crazyb0y: once a box is hacked you really should reinstall it cleanly unless you know for certain (and think they can remove the tracks they leave, log file entries and so on)
19:36<ompaul>crazyb0y: how do you know there are no backdoors left there for some random time in the future?
19:37<crazyb0y>ompaul: i used rkhunter
19:37<mjt>crazyb0y: for this your situation. Hold grub, and update the rest. Only #594518 is of some relevance, the rest is either insignificant, nor applicable or just bogus. #594518 may - in theory - make the system unbootable, but one has to check the details. But you'd better check yourself.
19:37<ompaul>crazyb0y: and how do you know they did not alter that?
