09:57<zylt>i'm bewildered by the behaviour of fdisk when partitioning my usb stick: when i delete all partitions and create a new one the following happens: 1. the partition occupes all the space on the stick, regardless of the size i specify 2. the files that were on the deleted partition reappears on the new one (sometimes in two copies)
09:58<zylt>currently fdisk shows an empty partition table, yet debian automounted the stick on boot

21:35<lordguinness>hi guys, happy new year
21:35<lordguinness>anybody there with experience on zimbra ?
21:36<lordguinness>i think zimbra is a good exchange alternative for small companies. what do you think?
21:36<sney>all I know of it is the talking heads song
21:37<lordguinness>oh, didnt know that
21:38<lordguinness>zimbra is a company from the netherlands
21:38<lordguinness>and talking heads are from the netherlands too, afaik
21:38<sney>nah they're american, from ny
21:39<lordguinness>u're sure ?
21:39<sney>anyway, I googled the thing, never heard of it but anyone who takes on Outlook has my interest
21:39<sney>yeah I'm sure
21:39<lordguinness>sney; you're right...
21:40<lordguinness>i was thinking of the nits...
21:40<lordguinness>i've just made a test-setup of zimbra opensource edition
21:40<lordguinness>and i think this is a really good alternative for smaller businnesses
21:42<sney>yeah it looks interesting
21:42<lordguinness>looks great even they have mobile access in the free edition
21:42<sney>boo on the closed-source pay-only Outlook connector, though. that would be a great migration tool.
21:42<lordguinness>who needs outlook ?
21:42<sney>users who are slow to switch over
21:42<lordguinness>i think having no client software is a selling argument
21:43<lordguinness>no license costs, fewer patches etc
21:43<sney>but if you're going to go with no client software you may as well ditch classical groupware entirely and use google apps
21:43<lordguinness>but the webclient looks like outlook. no need to learn anything now.
21:44<lordguinness>but with zimbra you are the admin who has control over software
21:44<lordguinness>with google, you're just a customer
21:45<lordguinness>and zimbra seems to be work with existing postifx installations and active directory or whatever very well
21:45<Kristian>Zimbra is decent. It doesn't feel quite as polished as some parts of google apps, but on the other hand, it doesn't have some of the frustrating aspects of google apps either
21:45<lordguinness>i think zimbra is worth to take a look at.
21:46<Kristian>definitely - if you are willing to host it yourself
21:46<lordguinness>yes of course
21:46<Kristian>which I assume you are, otherwise you wouldn't be talking about it :)
21:46<lordguinness>and we are thinking about to "sell" it to little businesses in our town.
21:47<Kristian>yeah, I know my previous company does that
21:47<lordguinness>we think it has great potential for businesses <50 employees
21:47<Kristian>I used Zimbra for a year or so until last spring, and it seems pretty decent
21:47<lordguinness>we want to create a business with debian and oss
21:48<lordguinness>really ? how many employees does your company have ?
21:48<Kristian>that company had 150-200 people
21:48<Kristian>well -- has... but I'm not working there any more :)
21:48-!-tpocra is now known as nike
21:49<lordguinness>bwoah. not bad
21:49<Kristian>it's a "free software" company, though, so a somewhat special case
21:50<lordguinness>here in our country there are a look of little companies with <50 employees
21:50<lordguinness>abd they all use exchange. and they all pay for that.
21:50<lordguinness>sure, but just look at these little companies. they just want mail and share their calendars
21:51<lordguinness>i think this is something zimbra opensource edition can do
