03:49<tcsetattr>you can add dir_index with tune2fs followed by an e2fsck cleanup pass... I don't know if it works the other direction

What I want to know is: does this message indicate a legitimate mail attempt which continues to timeout and enter deferment, or has my box been compromised by a spammer using my sendmail function for spam?
21:21<IchibanHashi>Since the user running the function was www-data, I assumed it was a compromised php script being used, but I temporarily took all my php scripts containing mail() offline and I am continuing to get more of these messages.

The weird russian one (the red flag to me) was an obvious spambot, but would have gotten the initial email from phpbb. Is it possible these messages were just timeouts in constant referral? The timestamps correspond to the sendmail cron job timer for checking mail queues.
