04:49<ganeshp>Arrowmaster: honestly not sure. But the fonts started looking narrow and blurry and eye straning. After some research I gave up and started reinstalling packages one by one and went on watching fonts display. I completed all other except ttf-mscorefonts-installer. And I suspected on this.

04:51<Arrowmaster>they might work, i dont really know
04:51<ProgVal>I would like to install IceWeasel 3.6, but it has been replaced by 4.0 in experimental. How to get version 3.6?

04:52<ProgVal>oh, thanks, I'm stupid
04:53<Arrowmaster>ganeshp: theres a font config in gnome to change the defaults used, probably one in kde too but i dont use it so i dont know where
04:53<Arrowmaster>the major problem though is your webbrowser since once you have the fonts installed they will get used whenever a sites css names them

06:53<flamingspinach>looking at what depends on python-louis, I see two things - "gnome-orca 2.30.2-2" and "gnome-orca 2.91.6-1", the first of which is marked as "i" and the second "p" (installed and purged/not-installed I guess) in aptitude

12:59<sney>ppa is ubuntu, Debian is different enough that it can cause problems
12:59<devil>ubuntu is not debian, simple as that
12:59<themill>!why not use a ppa
12:59<dpkg>PPAs (Ubuntu's Personal Package Archives, see <PPA>) are not built against Debian releases, they are built against Ubuntu releases. This makes using packages from them on a Debian box highly unlikely to work out well. Ask me about <ssb> <package recompile> <bobbitt>.

12:59<sney>if there's something in a ppa that you ABSOLUTELY MUST have, download the .debs manually and install them using dpkg -i. That way, if something breaks, you'll find yourself in a much shallower hole.

19:28<CyL>Evening folks... trying to decide on the best thing to do on installing a new Debian system on my personnal laptop: should I go with stable, or testing (I know squeeze was just released, but I'm afraid I'll have greater pains on the long run as it ages), and also, I would like to have a system on top of LVM, on top of a LUKS AES encrypted partition...

19:32<sney>CyL: that's correct, but it'll be at least another 3 months before it's '4-6 months after a major relase'
19:32<sney>at present, Wheezy is very bumpy
19:33<sney>it can be used but you have to know what you're doing. also, it's not even installable as far as I know - in order to use it, one has to install stable and then upgrade

19:34<demonkeeper>At least as of today, there are few reasons to go with testing anyway.
