00:00<kveroneau>I also prefer KIO's over Apples limited file system support... I sometimes wish GNOME supported everything KIO does.
00:00<flaccid>you can port them heh
00:00-!-sortadi [~sortadi@] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
00:00<flaccid>KIO like kde?
00:00<kveroneau>Port cryptsetup? I've searched around and I've only found articles saying it's not supported. FUSE is really slow on Mac, compared to Linux.
00:01<kveroneau>Yes, KIO from KDE.
00:01<flaccid>i'm sure there is probalby an equiv for it. and yeah its not supported because it doesn't exist heh. kde is on mac
00:01<kveroneau>I mainly use Qt apps, and KIO is very handy when working with remote files.
00:01<flaccid>hmm, is there some way to easily find JAVA_HOME or is it set somewhere?
00:02<flaccid>there are equiavelent apps for that kind of thing and yeah there is kde and things like krusader

00:03<flaccid>JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/default-java should do the trick i guess
00:05<kveroneau>I also cannot find a good screen recorder for mac that's free. The ones that are free are bloated and don't support capturing just part of the screen.
00:05<kveroneau>I was looking into porting xvidcap to mac, but it only records from an X11 app, not sure if it would record from an Aqua app...

23:42<sney>how much physical ram do you have?
23:43<sney>it's up to you, you may not need swap, I find that it causes more problems than it solves on older computers with slow disk controllers
23:44<careet>The most this thing can support is 1gb. Would it be a mistake to fore go the swap partitions if I'll eventually have that?
23:45<sney>if you'll eventually have 1gb of physical memory? no, if you had 1gb I'd definitely advise you to do without. the only reason to have swap on a system with >1024M is if you're dealing with big file sizes or multitasking with resource hog programs
23:46<sney>and on a laptop you're using to fool around and learn the system, neither is very likely
23:46<flaccid>desktop would suggest the opposite for latter
