00:34<nyov>reklipz: the good ol' days. back when I played terminal velocity and hellbender I also had a rather nice joystick
00:34<_pg_>nyov, the problem is that the cintroller has sticks that are somewhat loose because it has been used, so the input needs to be adjusted through the use of something called deadzones, areas on the axis that dont register as input
00:35<reklipz>_pg_: I understand what you're after, but I have no experience with jscal, nor a wired xbox 360 controller to help play along
00:35<nyov>_pg_: i know deadzones, and that doesn't work?
00:35<reklipz>perhaps the jscal mailing list, irc channel, or other, while you're waiting for some real-time support?
00:35<_pg_>i have no idea how to create them
00:36<_pg_>theres something about coefficients and broken lines-its all a little much
00:37<_pg_>but perhaps there is a #gamepad...
00:38<nyov>yeah sorry, out of my leage

00:44<nozzy>Unfortunatly,totem doesn't have any feature using notification protocols. However,
00:44<reklipz>totem apparently interacts with libnotify; bug reports saying that "totem suppresses all libnotify popups"; perhaps this bug has been fixed.
00:45<nozzy>oh! I'm missing that information. Will you please tell me the web links of that topic?
00:45<nyov>totem can use multiple backends, not?
00:46<reklipz>https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/580285 -- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin-libnotify/+bug/601246
00:46<reklipz>nyov: looks like this may be a totem -> X/gnome and X/gnome -> libnotify interaction, though
00:47<reklipz>all I can say: vlc plays nicely with libnotify, and has support for popups internally as well.
00:48<nozzy>reklipz: I know vlc player , however,
00:48<nozzy>totem is default application to play movie, music, I think. So

02:06<nevyn>not really

02:07<george_>so if the sound adjustment isn't loud enough for me in pavucontrol, can I just use alsamixer? lol
02:08<nyov>ah and I had to unlink the alsa pcm from the pa volume whatever, because it would cut off sound at ~20% volume otherwise

04:19<quietone>hi all, can anyone help me get sound to TV via HDMI? I've run out of ideas of what to try
04:22<mjr>dutchfish, sounds like you want to put an entry for him on B..Z in /etc/security/access.conf disallowing login from A
04:22<mjr>'course, this would also disallow if he's logged in locally

04:22<mjr>that would be more ... kludgy to arrange in a decently secure manner
04:23<dutchfish>quietone, it depends alot on the adapter you have and what it supports, most hdmi i know do support sound but not in conjunction with HD, i use spdif for that instead.
04:24<dutchfish>mjr, i was thinking that one first too, also thought about iptables on the boxes B..Z, but that wont work either

04:30<costas_>quietone, have you checked your mixer?
04:30<mjr>well, then it sounds like you want to have ssh from A to B..Z per default disallowed by iptables on host A, and run, possibly through pam_exec, on host A for local logins (or for all logins, while adding a check if it's local, of course) a script that will add an exception for that user to the rule. Remove the exception on logout. Recall that if they're left logged in locally, the exception remains; time it out if you need to.
04:31<quietone>costas_, gnome-alsa-mixer? well, I have played with it.
04:31<dutchfish>quietone, you need latest snd-hda-intel you could try your luck with 2.6.38.4 kernel
04:32<dutchfish>quietone, this is all depending on the state ofr the intel sound module inside the kernel

15:41<ompaul>george_: you want "screen" and or NOHUP you type screen ... start the program ... and then close the terminal with the X outside it you can screen -r to reattach later
15:41<towo`>it will not work, for a started x app

15:42<george_>alright so screen, thanks
15:43<ompaul>george_: as towo` says it is not for X applications (then I assumed as you said terminal it is a CLI app
15:44<george_>ohh no, like if i was to run a command such as audacious and the program opens up, how can I close the terminal, but not have audacious turn off

If this is true, then why can't the Debian version of it not change that policy? Or does that open up another security hole?

19:33<k6-bgr>Hi guys, good
19:33<zeus>hi all, hi have two computer running squeeze. One installed months ago has "noip2" package. The second with same official repos tell me that thereis no package named noip2 when i aptitude find noip2. How this is possible ?
19:34<nyov>zeus: looks like noip2 was dropped from squeeze
19:35<nyov>it is in lenny and sid

19:35<nyov>zeus: maybe you have lenny sourceson that one machine?
19:36<zeus>nyov: but i have installed it moths ago ... it very strange
19:36<zeus>nyov: absolutely not ! sources are for squeeze only !
19:38<zeus>is it possible they dropped the package after the squeeze relese, i mean for release for STABLE
19:38<nyov>zeus: yes, some unresolved serious bug would be the reason
19:39<zeus>it also seems that there is no package able to manage noip client. isn't it ? do you have any tips ?

19:40<Franki>I need something that starts shell scripts with the setuid/setgid of the script file. Sudo is not optimal, as you would have to give every script that should be executed this way an own line in sudoers. I think of a small wrapper binary. Anyone knows whether such a thing already exists?
