01:01<dpkg>First, check for a backport on <debian-backports>. If unavailable: 1) Add ONLY a <deb-src> line for sid to /etc/apt/sources.list 2) enable debian-backports (see <bdo>) 3) aptitude update; aptitude install build-essential; aptitude build-dep packagename; apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs. To change compilation options, see <package recompile>; for versions newer than sid see <uupdate>.
01:03<ayaka>cahoot, th
01:04<ayaka>cahoot, but I don't want it,I only need one package and I don't want to compile it
01:04<dpkg>echo 'APT::Default-Release "testing";' >> /etc/apt/apt.conf, edit sources.list, copy your non-security testing lines and change one set to sid, then apt-get update. Use apt-get -t sid install foo; to install foo from sid rather than testing as usual. WARNING to SYNAPTIC users: Synaptic ignores Default-Release: set Preferences->Distribution
01:05<retrospectacus>ayaka: testing-unstable mix ^^
01:05<retrospectacus>ayaka: you can try a stable-unstable mix

01:12<retrospectacus>ayaka: you add a source list for sid, update, install -t sid nvidia thing, then remove the source and update. You have nvidia thing from sid and still running stable.
01:12<ayaka>retrospectacus, cahoot thank both of you, I shall try
01:12-!-edog [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
01:12<retrospectacus>ayaka: of course it can get more complicated depnding on what "nvidia thing" is/depends on
01:13<ayaka>retrospectacus, what is different about I add sid or testing to source.list
01:13<jm_>it won't work because the version in sid needs new X server
01:13<retrospectacus>that's what will be available to you
01:14<ayaka>jm_, so I should install new version of X first?

02:18<diego>but, have you tried running it on a windows on Oracle VM VirtualBox
02:18<diego>its probably better than running on wine
02:18<aussa>what I need it for is to simulate microcontrollers programs...

02:18<diego>I mean, if you use a virtual machine like VirtualBox

02:19<diego>you will need a windows cd / serial to install windows like if you were installing it for real

02:19<diego>and it will run mostly whatever windows program you want
02:19<diego>because it is actually a whole windows computer that you would be emulating
02:20<aussa>I actually have proteus in a win7 virtual machine... but I don't like to use it, I though I might try to install with wine... :S
02:20<diego>ohh, :) well, if it works :)
02:20<aussa>thank you :D
02:20<diego>its probably faster than running a virtual machine
