00:28-!-moonhead [] has joined #debian
00:28<ZykoticK9>fosser_josh, if you're getting "not managed" that says the device has an entry in /etc/network/interfaces - you can either configure it there, or remove it and let network manager "manage" it.

03:52<miggs>hello. i don't manage to get my external repos trusted in debian testing. if for example i try "wget -O - | apt-key add -" i get among others "gpg: can't open `/etc/apt/trusted.gpg'"
03:53<th_>perhaps you need to run them as root
03:53<miggs>as root is the same
03:53<valdyn>miggs: why cant that file be opened?
03:54<th_>ls -l /etc/apt/trusted.gpg
03:54<th_>what's the result?
03:54<madadam1>valdyn, apt-get build-dep pidgin what exactly do?
03:54<miggs>-rw------- 1 root root 11255 Jun 11 07:50 /etc/apt/trusted.gpg
03:54<valdyn>madadam1: it installs the packages needed to build the pidgin debian package
03:54<valdyn>madadam1: this is usually what you want also for building latest upstream
03:55<madadam1>valdyn, great, thank'
03:55<valdyn>madadam1: if you want a full featured package thats much easier than tracking optional depends
03:56<miggs>valdyn: i don't know
03:56<th_>lsattr /etc/apt/trusted.gpg
03:56<madadam1>valdyn, could I create a .deb to install this version of pidigin?
03:57-!-maalac [] has joined #debian
03:57<miggs>-----------------e- /etc/apt/trusted.gpg
03:57<valdyn>madadam1: sure "could", but the real question is how easy that is, isnt it?
03:57<kenyon>madadam1: that would be the preferred way
03:57<valdyn>madadam1: the worst case scenario you should use "checkinstall" i suppose
03:57<miggs>th_ i ran that as sudo
03:58<th_>can you paste the exact command you ran
03:58<valdyn>madadam1: in case the build does not differ much from the stock debian package theres a better command
03:58<th_>including sudo
03:58<valdyn>madadam1: to bad I forgot that command, im sure someone here knows
03:58<madadam1>valdyn, ok. checkinstall which arguments takes?
03:59<valdyn>madadam1: no - thats the last resort, not the primary

04:00<valdyn>madadam1: ^^
04:01<th_>or this one:
04:01<th_>wget -O - | sudo apt-key add -
04:01<miggs>it says OK after the forst one
04:01<valdyn>madadam1: and only if that doesnt work you might consider checkinstall

20:25<Hydroxide>ghoose312: it's a valid mac address. if you want to know if it could have been assigned, check the online list of mac prefix <-> manufacturer correspondences. even if it could be valid it could also be faked of course

20:26<Hydroxide>ghoose312: the internet says that belongs to HTC Corporation, which means that if it's not faked it's probably a mobile phone
20:26<sney>yep, cell phone macs don't usually start with 00
20:26<Hydroxide>ghoose312: and, hey, people use open wifi sometimes. could be a neighbor
20:27<ghoose312><Hydroxide>: dammit! I am an idiot... it's my smartphone... *bump*
20:27<ghoose312>it's WPA2 encrypted with a 23 character long key with special signs...
20:28<Hydroxide>ah. yeah, that's less likely to be a neighbor than an open network :-) glad you figured it out
