00:00<cybersphinx>TCW: Extract the initramfs and grep that for hda?

00:01<TCW>Intel® Server Boards S3210SH <- that is the mainboard, and according to the manual it does not have pata slots

00:02<TCW>ahhh! So the BIOS was listing the USB disk that was connected at that time! sney, so I am 100% sure now, no old IDE disk in that box :)
00:02<TCW>cybersphinx, hmmm... woth a try...

00:05<shiloh25>TCW: back, using irssi in terminal, in gnome now
00:05-!-cybersphinx_ [] has joined #debian
00:05<TCW>shiloh25, so your gnome session is now 100% complete?
00:06<shiloh25>yessir, it restarted by itself with gnome login :-)
00:06<shiloh25>i am so so so happy
00:07-!-kdog [] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
00:07<shiloh25>TCW: wow ty for all the help, this is, awesome
00:08<TCW>./conf/conf.d/resume:RESUME=/dev/hda2 <- the only thing in the initrd... but... interesting
00:09<shiloh25>TCW: ?
00:09<sney>TCW: hmm

00:11<TCW> <- set -x in update-initramfs
00:11<TCW>shiloh25, yes?
00:12<shiloh25>TCW: when trying to run synaptic: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
00:12<shiloh25>E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
00:12-!-cybersphinx [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:12<sney>TCW: did you migrate that config from the machine that actually did have that disk? I think there must be something leftover
00:12<TCW>shiloh25, do what it says... in a terminal as root: dpkg --configure -a
00:13<TCW>sney, sure... it was a 1:1 migration :)
00:13<TCW>but lenny did not complain about "hda" anywhere...
00:14-!-brian [~brian@] has joined #debian
00:14<sney>lenny still had hd* disk names sometimes, iirc
00:15<TCW>sney, but as the disk was never in that new box... a rather theoretical issue :)
00:15-!-sadvis [~Administr@] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
00:15<sney>something in the raid metadata.... maybe
00:16<sney>that lenny's mdadm wouldn't have picked up
00:16<sney>legacy data or something but I'm just guessing
00:16<TCW>ii lilo <- hmm... I have a weird feeling... let's see
00:16<shiloh25>TCW: ty again, very much
00:17<TCW>sney, yes... maybe... at least that hda WAS once part of the raid (that's how I "migrated" the system)
00:17<TCW>shiloh25, you're welcome :)

00:19<TCW>sney, I have NO idea why... but I removed lilo and the error is gon
00:19<shiloh25>i like my system light, and like to see whats using what
00:19<sney>TCW: ha! I think update-initramfs probably checks lilo.conf
00:19<TCW>sney, yes it does.... that was a real weird one
00:20<TCW>0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 100 not upgraded <- ok, now let's go on :)
00:21<TCW>geez... that dist-upgrade is a real funny thing I must say :)
00:21-!-lanthan_ [] has joined #debian
00:21<TCW>but so far, all essential stuff /cups / samba is working... the next step is apache, php and mysql
00:23<sney>php made a significant jump from lenny to squeeze iirc so there might be some hiccups depending on what you're hosting
00:24<TCW>I am in no way a php professional... but let's see... first a dist-upgrade and see what will fail :)
00:25<TCW>it is just an internal test webserver... not that essential...
00:26<sney>yeah or else you'd know that already
00:27<sney>I'm sure has the information you need for a 5.2 to 5.3 change

00:34<TCW>warning, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/available' near line 165602 package 'f-secure-automatic-update-agent': <- btw, there was once the f-secure managment server installed on that box... long time removed (with etch I think), with lenny no issue, with squeeze I now get that message for every package during upgrade / install :) not tragic, but annoying... so I have to manually edit /var/lib/dpkg/available or is there another "cleaner" way?
