01:42<corpusmainus>no comment?
01:44<bones_was_here>lol
01:46<bones_was_here>mostly the differences are political/management decisions/structure of the projects, of course those have a lot of influence on the nature of the product

01:49<corpusmainus>okay thanks
01:50<bones_was_here>you have to use it to make a decision for yourself
01:50<bones_was_here>distro choice is mostly personal preference, ie whether you agree with the way the distro authors make decisions
01:52<corpusmainus>basically what I am asking though is if it will be any harder to figure out than ubuntu for someone trying to get away from windows
01:53<bones_was_here>it will initially appear more difficult to use than ubuntu to a windows user yes
01:53<bones_was_here>but i imagine there are other critera than that

01:56<corpusmainus>really i wish lexmark supported linux more. my printer is pretty much the only reason I am still even dual booting with windows
01:57<Bushmills>corpusmainus: we can tell you how different debian is ubuntu just about as much as you can tell how different ubuntu is from debian
01:57<Bushmills>is from ..
01:58-!-krayn [~Adium@host223-68-dynamic.61-82-r.retail.telecomitalia.it] has joined #debian
01:58<Bushmills>except the obvious differences, like policy and general ubuntu user cluelessness :)
01:59<corpusmainus>what policies are you referring to?
02:00<bones_was_here>many decent printers that support linux can be had for less than the cost of a windows license :)

That may be enough to restart the server, but if not, log in as root on a text-mode terminal and invoke-rc.d <your-dm> restart - where <your-dm> is the name of the display manager you are running, e.g. gdm3. 13:50<alkap>howdy, looking to do dual booting on debian squeeze; there's no /boot/grub/menu.lst in grub2 as far as i understand; i'd appreciate some tips on how to do it in grub2;
13:50<kinky>alkap: /boot/grub/grub.cfg

13:51<kinky>alkap: although it's generated automatically by update-grub, you shouldn't edit it manually, the os-prober script should detect your windows

16:51<streuner_>dpkg, locate
16:51<dpkg>locate is a tool for finding files on your hard drive using a precompiled database rather than searching the actual drive using "find" (ask me about <find.cli>). Formerly provided in the findutils package, ask me about <missing locate>; <mlocate> is usually the best option.
