13:06<ompaul>Ralphy: my crystal ball is broken please come back after windows 8 and uefi
13:06<Urlax>i don't know, and don't worry much
13:06<Ralphy>just read some articles, and it's a bit unsettling, the idea that we won't be able to boot what we want
13:06<Urlax>that's only true for dell boxen
13:06-!-Wyzard_ is now known as Wyzard
13:06<Ralphy>ok, if you guys aren't worried... maybe I shouldn't worry too much myself.
13:06<Urlax>because they kind off want the 'built for windows' sticker

13:07<Urlax>i'm not an expert myself

13:08<Urlax>especially on gamer hardware

13:10<Ralphy>For the secure boot, why don't we just boot of read-only media? That way we don't need all this checking and stuff...
13:11<Wyzard>ompaul: It's not "command and control" imposed on you if *you* can install a trusted certificate in your bootloader and have your firmware verify your bootloader and kernel with it
13:11<ompaul>Wyzard: if they don't trust me why should I trust them?

18:20<wompa>aaron_, it just works, it's free and it's easy. My experience with Fedora is that it can be quite tricky to get it to work, since it's always "cutting edge", and updates every day. Ubuntu does their own thing a little bit too much and they claim ownership for contributions. Mandriva was to "Windowsy". Suse is too "enterprisey" so I haven't even tested it. Red hat costs. And the most other distros are too specific or they are too much of DIY.

21:28<gdb>I really don't have any idea. But this sounds like a terminal problem (not properly rendering UTF-8). Is this happening on the console of the system or are you using some other terminal software?
21:29*gdb doesn't have that dictionary installed, but détente displays correctly outside of this context.
