05:24<hiroshima>Hi @ all... I have still the open issue that I am not able to get an audio signal from my HDMI port of my Graphic card (ATI Radeon HD 5700). The video signal is transmitted, however no audio signal. Does anybody has a assumption what the problem could be?
05:25<bartm>volume muted or set to zero ?
05:25<valdyn>hiroshima: how are you playing sound ?
05:26<hiroshima>i.e with vlc...
05:26<hiroshima>however, I have already changed the vlc settings...

05:26<valdyn>hiroshima: sure, but how do you know that vlc is using that hdmi port instead of your sound card?
05:27<hiroshima>As I can select it by the settings...
05:28<hiroshima>Tools -> preferences -> audio -> output module -> selected module: HD-Audio Generic: HDMI 0 (hw:1,3)
05:29<hiroshima>I have also already checked with with the cmd "aplay -l" if it is really the right module...
05:30<valdyn>hiroshima: and you adjusted the volume / mute settings ?

05:54<Zaba>lapfrog, that's wildly uninformative and wrong for the most part
05:55<lapfrog>that's how i roll, dog
05:55<Zaba>nixjr, depends on what you mean by 'radeon'. There are the official drivers (fglrx) which only works for r600 and newer, which might work great when the phase of moon is right
05:56<Zaba>nixjr, and there's the free 'radeon' driver that supports older support, has increasingly better support for modern hardware, offers better 2d acceleration than fglrx but worse 3d acceleration

05:56<Zaba>nixjr, so, for new hardware you actually have choice, which depends not only on technical details but also your needs. And odds are at least one driver will work fine for your particular card.
