03:38<redhat>help me.................
03:38<bartm>redhat, sure, just ask your question
03:40<Bushmills>debian related questions preferred :)
03:41<redhat>I first installed Ubuntu and I want to learn. What should I do?
03:41<dpkg>i guess netinst is a small CD image with which you can install Debian. If, during the installation process you have a working Internet connection, you can install more packages straight away, otherwise, you will have a base install and more packages later. See See also <various cd1>, <check iso image>, <dialup install>, <usb install>, <installer>.
03:41<Bushmills>use that instead

08:19<babilen>aleksandar: I would personally prefer the free radeon driver. You need to install firmware though
08:19<dpkg>Radeon is a brand of graphic processing units by ATI/AMD ( The radeon open source display driver is packaged for Debian as xserver-xorg-video-radeon, optionally install libgl1-mesa-dri for 3D acceleration. 21:02<Black_Prince>dpkg, resolvconf
21:02<dpkg>[resolvconf] a package that can be used to manage your /etc/resolv.conf (the file that contains your DNS settings). Many packages including ppp, ifupdown, dhcp-client, pump, pdnsd, dnsmasq, ... are compatible with resolvconf, making it easier to manage your DNS settings. Ask me about <fixresolvconf>. See also <resolv.conf>.
21:02<Black_Prince>dpkg, fixresolvconf
21:02<dpkg>To fix your /etc/resolv.conf: edit /etc/dhcp{,3}/dhclient.conf to include the nameservers you want to use (ask me about <override dns>). Alternatively, use <resolvconf> and specify the nameservers yourself: echo -e "nameserver a.b.c.d\nnameserver w.x.y.z" > /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base; resolvconf -u (where a.b.c.d and w.x.y.z are your ISPs nameservers). 21:04<diego>dpkg, fixresolvconf the ugly way
21:04<dpkg>If you can't be bothered configuring either <resolvconf> or your DHCP client to properly handle your DNS settings, then you can do this: echo -e "nameserver a.b.c.d\nnameserver w.x.y.z" > /etc/resolv.conf && chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf (where a.b.c.d and w.x.y.z are your ISPs nameservers). 21:15<diego>some encryption levels are illegal in

21:15<cmr>diego: I think you can't export cryptographic tools, but using it isn't limited.
21:15<g0rs>diego: encryption is legal but the gov doesn't like it. If you use PGP or tor, then you're in their list :/
