01:14<dardevelin>nomada, hi there
01:14<dardevelin>nomada, you mean when you login says something about being .local?
01:15-!-leogg [~leogg@irc.consciente.de] has joined #debian
01:15<nomada>dardevelin No, I mean with the all te people living and connecting every second. :P
01:16<leogg>nomada, it must have been a netsplit
01:16<nomada>leogg netsplit?
01:17<dardevelin>!netsplit
01:17<dpkg>A netsplit is a deliberate disconnection between at least two servers on one IRC network. Usually occurs when the output-queue for the link has filled up too much to make a timely (re)sync likely, so it is preferred to maintain sanity (and lag-freeness) for both parts of the network. Occurs anywhere where links between IRC servers have too little bandwidth (available/allocated).

10:31<grdm>simple way?
10:31<babilen>grdm: You probably have two options: 1. Compile your own kernel (http://kernel-handbook.alioth.debian.org/ch-common-tasks.html) 2. Pull the kernel (and dependencies) directly from sid. This would be done by setting the default release to "squeeze" (/msg dpkg default release), adding sid sources to your sources.list which in turn allows you to install the desired kernel package.
10:31<babilen>grdm: Why do you need a 3.0 kernel?

10:31<grdm>only for test some options
10:32<babilen>grdm: Please note that I am not entirely sure if both of those approaches will work (haven't tried it myself) as there might be software in squeeze that assumes the kernel to be 2.6.* and/or other packages that are incompatible with it. You can also install 2.6.39 from backports (/msg dpkg bdo kernel) if that is good enough for you. Which options do you want to test and in which kernel version were they introduced?

17:34<marutukku>i have a question.
17:34<amphi>is it a secret? ;)
17:34<marutukku>if im running a stock 3.0.0-2 kernel,
17:34<marutukku>and im trying to install proprietary nvidia drivers,
17:35<marutukku>has anyone done this first hand? bc its not as easy as it was in squeeze.
17:35<sney->in wheezy?
17:35<marutukku>apparently prebuilt packages for nvidia drivers in the sid repo dont work
17:35<sney->install your kernel headers and nvidia-kernel-dkms
17:35<DYSW>its testing your running i assume, not sure the developers thought about that so much
17:36<marutukku>yeah sorry, sid
17:36<sney->prebuilts generally don't work for sid/testing since there's too much chaos going on.

17:37-!-cahoot [~radix@c83-252-75-32.bredband.comhem.se] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
17:37<sney->there's a compatibility issue with the 1.11 xorg found in wheezy/sid and the current iteration of the proprietary nvidia driver
17:37<babilen>(or use the version in experimental)
17:37<amphi>nvidia is broken in testing, I think
17:37<DYSW>it would be simpler to use squeeze
17:37<marutukku>im familiar with modifying xorg.conf by hand for nvidia drivers but what is xorg.conf.d snipppet?
17:37<sney->and please ask in #debian-next if you have any further testing/sid questions :)
