04:13<squeeze9>its just for storage, so i guess it'll be fine
04:13<project2501a>i think the NTFS-3g driver cannot be yet be considered high-performance
04:13<project2501a>squeeze9: my question is, why don't you just buy a second computer for linux?

04:14<project2501a>it's only 200 dollars to put something together

05:00<chrisign>hello out there, is there any docu about, what the installer does if I choose a encrypted lvm?

05:02<chrisign>for booting the kernel, as a /boot partition?!
05:02<chrisign>I want to know that, for rebuilding this.

17:42<dpkg>i guess resolv.conf is /etc/resolv.conf, resolver configuration file that contains your nameserver IPs. It's written by your DHCP client. To use different nameservers than those provided by DHCP, ask me about <override dns>. See also <fixresolvconf>.

19:56<heikkila>Diver, why do you want Firefox (and from Mint)? Debian has only rebranded Firefox to Iceweasel. If you want a more recent version than Debian squeeze's 3.5 you can use the repos at Also see
19:58<Diver>heikkila: Is it just a rebranding? I'd kinda like to just run vanilla firefox with no modifications (but if it's just rebranding I guess that's alright). LMDE seemed like a logical place to grab .deb files and get updates (rather than building firefox from source myself)

20:02<heikkila>Diver, the wiki states that Firefox and Iceweasel are identical. The other difference is security fixes, but I guess they are targeting the stable's default version of Iceweasel (3.5). So I think you are good to go with the "release version" at repo.
20:03<bjb>Diver, yes, backports is for packages that are being developed for unstable, but ported back to stable env.
20:03-!-mattux [] has joined #debian
20:04<Diver>Ok thanks guys, I'll go with that route. :)
20:04<bjb>It might not be bleeding edge like getting something from mozilla directly, but more up-to-date than the squeeze version
20:04<Hydroxide>bjb: mostly backported from testing, actually, with some exceptions. and normally iceweasel release channel for stable would be in backports, but for various specific technical reasons it's at :)
20:05<Hydroxide>and it is pretty current relative to mozilla releases, most of the time.
20:05<bjb>oh, sorry, I saw mozilla in the url and thought it was mozilla site.
20:06<bjb>didn't look closely enough

21:40<bjb>or grub
21:41<bjb>best to ask your hosting company - but just remove grub if you don't need it
21:41<bjb>then grub updates won't cause the kernel (un)install to fail and you can remove that
21:42-!-hook [~hook@] has joined #debian
21:42<fir31ight>yeah looking into all that, how it works.
21:43<bjb>Or, edit the postinstall script for the kernel to comment out the failing action. then run the uninstall.

22:44<simonlnu>multiqueue? looks vaguely like a kernel thread.
22:44-!-jillsmitt [~ariniov@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
22:44<simonlnu>mm no. it mentions libc6 so it isn't.
22:45<simonlnu>,find bin/multiqueue
22:47<bricked>running 'find / -name \*multiqueue\* -print' now. Logs have a burst of errors like that every few days, but no other clues.
22:47<bricked>unfortunately kernel is tainted by nvidia and virtualbox

22:52<simonlnu>well keep running that find maybe you'll find it...
22:52<bricked>wondering if it's network-related: /usr/share/doc/linux-doc-2.6.32/Documentation/networking/multiqueue.txt.gz
22:52<simonlnu>seems odd to me
22:52<bricked>odd to me too
22:53<simonlnu>yeh i get a hit in linux-manual-3.1 and linux-doc-3.1
22:53<simonlnu>linux-doc-3.1: /usr/share/doc/linux-doc-3.1/html/networking/API-netif-is-multiqueue.html
22:53<simonlnu>linux-manual-3.1: /usr/share/man/man9/netif_is_multiqueue.9.gz
22:54<bricked>the find just finished, nothing new
22:55<simonlnu>is that in ps right now ?
22:56<bricked>no, nothing multi or queue - that was the first thing I looked for
22:59<simonlnu>maybe run an at command for when that happens, and see if you can catch anything
23:00<bricked>looking at the logs, the time is random :-(
23:00<simonlnu>no patterns stick out?
23:00<bricked>no visible pattern; a block of segfaults every few days
23:00<bricked>different times of day
23:00<bricked>I wasn't even at the computer for today's segfaults

23:04<simonlnu>how about traffic on the interface? you tracking that at all?
23:05<bricked>no, that's a good idea. you're thinking log it with wireshark?
