04:13<project2501a>squeeze9: it is safe enough, unless you are doing a lot of writes
04:13<squeeze9>its just for storage, so i guess it'll be fine
04:13<project2501a>i think the NTFS-3g driver cannot be yet be considered high-performance
04:13<project2501a>squeeze9: my question is, why don't you just buy a second computer for linux?
04:14-!-mode/#debian [+l 451] by debhelper
04:14<project2501a>it's only 200 dollars to put something together
04:15<squeeze9>i only use linux, the NTFS partition is there so that the data can be read/written just in case someone at home decides to install windows in the unallocated disk space
04:15<squeeze9>this is a shared computer

11:58<Heinvd>hi ompaul, i explored that option...
11:58<Heinvd>the originating mail is sent from a website using php mail()
11:58<Heinvd>it then sends to user@server1 and user@server2
11:59<Heinvd>both those users are setup in outlook, but user@server1 comes through fine, and user@server2 does not....

11:59<ompaul>good, revisit it, a mail server's job is to send and deliver a package to another server, once it is delivered, it's job is done, as for how that is rendered, ask the client to behave.

16:46<MvG>Hi! Just set up a minimalistic debian machine using debootstrap. Trying to boot it, I get a garbled display and a hanging system pretty early on. Using init=/bin/bash, I found that running the udev init script triggers the same behaviour.
16:47<Bushmills>MvG: debootstrap doesn't install kernel nor boot loader
16:47<MvG>So my question now is this: how can I find out what component udev is actually loading the moment before the screen goes boom.
16:48<MvG>Bushmills: I know, added them later on. Those are fine, the kernel and initrd are bootable, it's the init scripts which cause trouble.

17:23<MvG>As I wrote above, my system failed to boot when the udev init script was run, resulting in a garbled screen (looks like random noise) and hung system. I now found that removing the radeon.ko file helps avoid this problem. Adding it to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf is not enough, though.
17:23<MvG>So I fear the next update of the kernel drivers package will re-add that file, thus restoring my problems. I'm looking for a more permanent solution. Text-mode only is all right. Do you have any suggestions? Do you think I should file a bug report for this?

17:40<black_brasilia>Can someone help me with resolv.conf
17:41<Bushmills>impossible
17:42<kenyon>dpkg can
17:42<dpkg>hmm... can is question of capability, not permssion. You are quite capable of attempting anything you choose. If you're meant to ask permission instead, ask me about <ask>. SocketCAN project, ask me about <SocketCAN>.
17:42<kenyon>!resolv.conf
17:42<dpkg>i guess resolv.conf is /etc/resolv.conf, resolver configuration file that contains your nameserver IPs. It's written by your DHCP client. To use different nameservers than those provided by DHCP, ask me about <override dns>. See also <fixresolvconf>.

19:55<Diver>I'm running debian squeeze, I'm wondering if it's possible to install only firefox out of the linux mint repo's?
19:55<Diver>I've added 'deb http://packages.linuxmint.com debian import' to my sources list, but now I see a bunch of updates available from that repo that i dont really want
19:56<heikkila>Diver, why do you want Firefox (and from Mint)? Debian has only rebranded Firefox to Iceweasel. If you want a more recent version than Debian squeeze's 3.5 you can use the repos at http://mozilla.debian.net/ Also see http://wiki.debian.org/Iceweasel
19:58<Diver>heikkila: Is it just a rebranding? I'd kinda like to just run vanilla firefox with no modifications (but if it's just rebranding I guess that's alright). LMDE seemed like a logical place to grab .deb files and get updates (rather than building firefox from source myself)
19:59<amitz>Diver: the version may lag behind. do you have any specific intent?

20:00<bjb>Diver, have you considered debian-backports?
20:01<bjb>http://backports-master.debian.org/
20:01<Diver>bjb: I just used backports to install libreoffice, can I do the same to grab firefox/iceweasel? (I'm a little green with debian incase you haven't noticed heh)
20:02-!-mattux [~mattux@pc-248-10-241-201.cm.vtr.net] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
20:02<heikkila>Diver, the wiki states that Firefox and Iceweasel are identical. The other difference is security fixes, but I guess they are targeting the stable's default version of Iceweasel (3.5). So I think you are good to go with the "release version" at mozilla.debian.net repo.
20:03<bjb>Diver, yes, backports is for packages that are being developed for unstable, but ported back to stable env.
20:03-!-mattux [~mattux@pc-248-10-241-201.cm.vtr.net] has joined #debian
20:04<Diver>Ok thanks guys, I'll go with that route. :)
20:04<bjb>It might not be bleeding edge like getting something from mozilla directly, but more up-to-date than the squeeze version
20:04<Hydroxide>bjb: mostly backported from testing, actually, with some exceptions. and normally iceweasel release channel for stable would be in backports, but for various specific technical reasons it's at mozilla.debian.net :)
20:05<Hydroxide>and it is pretty current relative to mozilla releases, most of the time.
20:05<bjb>oh, sorry, I saw mozilla in the url and thought it was mozilla site.
20:06<bjb>didn't look closely enough
20:06<heikkila>bjb, mozilla.debian.net lists beta and aurora too (not that I've investigated how recent they are compared to Firefox).

20:08<Diver>While we're on the topic of backports.. Is it possible to grab a newer version of the nvidia graphics driver through backports? Or do I have to just do it the 'nvidia way' if I want the lastest driver?
20:09<Hydroxide>Diver: in case it wasn't clear, for newer iceweasel you'll want to get it from mozilla.debian.net but that's an exception to the general rule toward backports

20:09<Hydroxide>k :)
20:11<Hydroxide>it doesn't appear that nvidia's binary driver is in backports. it's probably much more difficult to do that for binary stuff, though maybe there are enough ways for something like that.

22:52<bricked>odd to me too
22:53<simonlnu>yeh i get a hit in linux-manual-3.1 and linux-doc-3.1
22:53<simonlnu>linux-doc-3.1: /usr/share/doc/linux-doc-3.1/html/networking/API-netif-is-multiqueue.html
22:53<simonlnu>linux-manual-3.1: /usr/share/man/man9/netif_is_multiqueue.9.gz
22:53<bricked>right
22:54<bricked>the find just finished, nothing new
22:55<simonlnu>is that in ps right now ?
22:56<bricked>no, nothing multi or queue - that was the first thing I looked for
22:59<simonlnu>maybe run an at command for when that happens, and see if you can catch anything
23:00<bricked>looking at the logs, the time is random :-(
23:00<simonlnu>no patterns stick out?
23:00<bricked>no visible pattern; a block of segfaults every few days
23:00<bricked>different times of day
23:00<bricked>I wasn't even at the computer for today's segfaults
23:01<simonlnu>:/. hm.

23:03<bricked>usually segfaults on multiqueue0:src, sometimes multiqueue1:src. I see one or two others, like multiqueue4:src and multiqueue9:src. No other clues that I can see. It's a stumper.
23:04<simonlnu>how about traffic on the interface? you tracking that at all?
23:05<bricked>no, that's a good idea. you're thinking log it with wireshark?
23:06<simonlnu>something to track spikes, and such

23:07<bricked>yeah, I like it. see if anything correlates. will do. thanks.
23:07<simonlnu>my thought was that something is making it crash... maybe an increase in traffic
23:07<simonlnu>exactly. np.

23:59<Jef91>My normal user cannot issue shutdown/restart from Enlightenment. It works fine in Ubuntu any ideas what permissions I might be missing in my Debian install that prevents this?
