02:17<batouzo>how to use gcc 4.5 on squeeze?
02:18<metaspike>gcc let me see
02:21<batouzo>or how to otherwise build kernel with plugins support there
02:22<batouzo>should building gcc from source work out well?
02:24<jm_>what plugins support?
02:25<batouzo>jm_: constify plugin for grsecurity secured kernel
02:25<batouzo>metaspike: so it is only in wheezy... hrm.
02:26<jm_>batouzo: you'll have to backport it yourself if you want that

02:31<metaspike_>oops double login :p batouzo the patch for grsecurity is in the repo, and ive compiled a 3.0.x kernel in squeeze with its gcc without incident. not sure about constify though
02:32<metaspike_>except problems with xorg and proporietory drivers which is to be expected.

02:49<batouzo>building in VM with debian testing seems best option

08:10<babilen>launchgame: Ok, I have to go now, but to summarise your options: 1. Disable encryption for your wifi and use <firmware image> or the <netinstall> with <installer firmware> to install over wifi 2. Download DVD1 and install from there (offline) - Note that you have to enable the online repositories after the initial installation, but this should give you a fully functional desktop. You still need <realtek-firmware> for your wifi adaptor though. ...
08:10<babilen>... 3. Find a place where you can user ethernet and use netinstall
08:10<babilen>launchgame: You can ask our bot (i.e. dpkg) about all the factoids in <..>. For example: /msg dpkg installer firmware

I am under the impression that I want to use Java 7's Path, but unfortunately (Paths/get "/etc") does not work, while (Paths/get (URI/create "file:///etc")) does. Apart from that I am also not sure if I really want to introduce a dependency on Java 7. What's the common approach in the Clojure community?

From /etc/apt/sources.list, remove stable-specific lines like squeeze-updates and backports, and change squeeze to wheezy. apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade. If you feel you need more instructions, perhaps you should wait a while.

22:04<robbiethe1st>Well, erm, as was said earlier, you get updates when programs get them
22:04<robbiethe1st>so when a program, like firefox, gets updated to fix something, you get that update fairly quickly.
22:04<robbiethe1st>there's noone backporting fixes to an older version, which means you'll get the fixes quicker, at the cost of no real support
22:05<troll>screw this i update to wheeze.... as i can see im already in the middle
22:05<abrotman>depending .. if the update also didn't introduce an RC bug causing it to get stuck in unstable
