01:13<tp43>scraze, do I have to format it, or just un-mount it and then "cat debian.iso > /dev/sdX" ?
01:14-!-cybersphinx [~cyber@p4FD67F99.dip.t-dialin.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
01:15<scraze>catting directly after unmount works fine for me, I don't think formatting it will make the resulting mbr & first partition different, although the remainder of the disk will be clean then .. perhaps it's a preference thing :]
01:15<tp43>debian is using bsd these days eh?

01:19<tp43>I have a hidden partition, how can unhide and use it?
01:19<scraze>I guess that comes down to the freeBSD kernel, which I know absolutely nothing of :]
01:19<tp43>scraze, I am dl'ing the standard one
01:20<scraze>hmm, hidden in which way? it doesn't show up in the partition table?
01:20<tp43>scraze, yeah, it must be hidden in the bios, but I couldn't find how to unhide it
01:21<jello>did you try : "mount" in the commandline

01:21<scraze>seems hdparm can show which sectors of the disk are hidden, hdparm -N /dev/sdX
01:21-!-h0n3st_ [~sadeq@178.162.136.58] has joined #debian
01:21<scraze>can't see how that applies to the partition table though
01:22<tp43>when I look at my disk using cfdisk, i don't see it, i forget where I saw it, but it is definiely there, but I do see in cfdisk "unuseable 2.6*" but I am guessing thats very small and due to fact I used up my primary partitions and stuff
01:22<scraze>yes, a bit of remainder is common
01:23<tp43>max sectors = 156301488/156301488, HPA is disabled
01:23<tp43>whatever that means
01:23<scraze>that's not it then, all sectors are visible

01:24<tp43>I am installing it now to see
01:25<scraze>there is indeed a "hidden" flag for partitions
01:25<tp43>can I run gparted while I am booted in, cause I usually used it using a live cd
01:25<scraze>yes, just be sure not to write to active disks :]

16:01<TCW>and if you are interested in the general stuff, you may need to aks the folks compiling the kernels. At least I really do not mind, they work with everything I throw at them (apart from a regression here and there) and all is well :)
16:02<Nemoder>hook: it's pretty simple to compile and use your own kernel on debian anyway if you dont wish to use the prebuilt ones
16:02<TCW>and the regressions are not debians fault... I just noticed linux-upstream did break some thinks in the last month for me :)
