00:01<sney>unfortunately there's currently nothing that offers full-feature 3d without some kind of driver headache. but if you just want your functional gui, you could use the free driver.
00:02<nevyn>if you want functional and free intel is well supported if you want full featured 3d and are willing to deal with proprietary drivers then some people like nvidia
00:04<acu>nevyn: thanks, I usually buy AMD based computers, and this ATI is a pain in the but , yes NVIDIA so far worked ok with their driver

03:29<chealer>where's dpkg?
03:29<mikah>is there a reason two different users can't use sound on debian squeeze?
03:29<nixmaniack>chealer, okay, actually i'm planning to help some maintainers, and wanted to what's the freeze date so I can help 'em better within time
03:30<mikah>example, i'm logged in. someone else needs to use this thing so i click switch user, they log in and are notified that the sound device isn't working.
03:30-!-bluenemo [] has joined #debian
03:30<mikah>even though it works perfect for me
03:31<rjsalts>mikah: they should be able to, depending on the setup. Some programs will block the device and try for exclusive control of it
03:31<rjsalts>mikah: so using a sound server of some kind is recommended
03:32<mikah>well i'm just going with what debian has by default
03:32<mikah>so if yall forgot to include one
03:32<chealer>mikah: are they in the audio group?
03:33<mikah>ok so they have sound
03:33<mikah>it just didn't work last time i guess
03:34<mikah>about the network management applet
03:34<mikah>same deal
03:34<mikah>only this one says that 'there's already something managing the network'
03:34<mikah>why can't this be a system wide applet
03:34<mikah>so that everyone can connect whenever they need to
03:34<lindi->mikah: applet is always the part that runs as a normal user
03:34<lindi->mikah: applet is the thing that shows the graphical state and offers menus

03:53<metaspike>terminal commands are independant of window manager configuration, so I think -system- configurations are best left to terminal interfaces. maybe if there was some unified way of handling all those base system debconf parameters and typical needs then things would be alot easier for beginners / "desktop" users. nothing comes to mind.
