01:05<dpkg> . Ask me about <nouveau> (no 3D support in Debian packages), <nvidia dkms> or <nvidia m-a>. For GPUs made before 2004, see <nvidia dkms-173xx> and <nvidia dkms-96xx> for legacy drivers. See <nvidia lenny> for oldstable. Installing directly from (i.e. with <nvidia-installer>) is _not_ supported in #debian, please go to #nvidia on

01:07<MrFrood>apart from the fact that we don't provide support for that method here you will find that you will need to reinstall the run packages after each and evry kernel update

01:10<monstaRtruck>wat the hel
01:11<buntunub>you can run debian under virtualbox in windows
01:11<MrFrood>kingsley: short of running it in a vm, no (as far as I am aware)
01:11<buntunub>just install it into a virtualbox
01:11<monstaRtruck>buntunub ur clearly crazy
01:13<MrFrood>monstaRtruck: if you install the debian way it is pretty much install once and forget about it
01:13<monstaRtruck>m-a auto-install nvidia-kernel${VERSION}-sourcenvidia-kernel290.10-source, what is nvidia-kernel290.10-source?
01:13<kingsley>I seem to recall there was a binary that ran under windows and gave you linux.
01:14<monstaRtruck>frood i got the version thing wrong?
01:14<kenyon>kingsley: maybe you're thinking of cygwin
01:14<monstaRtruck>nvidia-kernel290.10-source, what is nvidia-kernel290.10-source?
01:14<MrFrood>kingsley: there are some things like that around but as far as I am aware they are not Debian
01:15<kingsley>MrFrood: Do you happen to remember any keywords? The words "loop" and "loopback" come to my mind...

01:18<buntunub>not a big deal we all started somewhere
01:18<monstaRtruck>no shut up dufis u could be helping
01:18<MrFrood>monstaRtruck: read throughh the wiki page, ask the bot questions and ask here about anything you do not understand
01:19<monstaRtruck>i asked
01:19<monstaRtruck>Stock or custom kernel?
01:19<jatofire>Now I want to know the whole question
01:24<kingsley>ZekeS: Thank you. I was thinking of colinux.

02:32<Andrew>quick question for those who want to answer - if given the choice, would you rather upgrade to wheezy/sid or build a new kernel and intel drivers to get a sandybridge laptop working properly?
02:32<Andrew>or some other option. I like gnome 2 and don't need anything outside of stable besides a 3.x kernel and more recent intel drivers

02:40<heikkila>I don't know anything about intel drivers :(
02:41<Andrew>the newer intel ones with kms + dri are absolutely abysmal with power usage unless you throw a few kernel options on and have the most recent drivers

03:25<deepak>3. but still it give me permisiion denied

13:35<Sicelo>makes sense valdyn. using i915 driver, which appears to be broken in squeeze, at least for Intel 82845G/GL. i was getting frequent 'gpu hung' issues with it. right now i have a fresh install, and used i915 driver from backports. so far so good. that weird screen disappeared after i installed totem and it's dependencies
13:36<Sicelo>other people seem to have fixed the gpu hung issue for i915 by installing drivers from wheezy. i hope i won't have to go that far :/

23:32<rogues>hey guys i am looking to set up a web server on my debian install. i have apache2 running, but my ip address is dynamic, how do i set up a dns for my ip address and then have it work even after my ip address changes?
23:33<rogues>i am assuming i'll have to use some sort of a program that keeps running in the background.
