06:59<jm_>i handle it via autofs so I can trivially specify mount options to use and all is well
06:59<ohnoes>jm_: and does it then work for _all_ of your devices with a one time configuration?
07:00<ohnoes>jm_: I don't want to have to reconfigure the system when someone buys a new usb mass storage device.
07:01<ohnoes>What I have seen from autofs was that you still needed to specify UUIDs or labels, etc.

18:03<s_i_m>joeoshawa, why does it need authentication at all?
18:03<kop>CVirus: It's the encoding used on each end. the Windows box is using something different. Ftp does not handle this well. You might consider http instead.
18:03<joeoshawa>to access the dvd burner i am assuming
18:03<joeoshawa>not sure tho
18:04<joeoshawa>i would think it would generate an iso and then i burn that but not positive
18:04<s_i_m>well, joeoshawa, if the only thing you need is to burn an iso, you may use cdrecord directly
18:05<joeoshawa>no i need to author a dvd
18:05<joeoshawa>but it won't start
18:05<joeoshawa>and the issue is with dvdauthor directly
18:06<s_i_m>can you run it as root?
18:06<kop>CVirus: If you must use ftp (which is almost always a bad idea in the first place) you might be able to maintain the ftp root via scp (and, say, the firefox fireftp plugin) from you Windows box. That might get the right encoding into the names.
