05:59<hw>!resolution
05:59<dpkg>Resolution is how fine the pixels are. The higher the resolution, the more pixels that can be squeezed onto a screen, thereby giving the appearance that the pictures on your screen are smaller without losing any detail. Because the pictures are smaller you now have room to place more on your screen. Use ctrl-alt-numpad_plus/minus or <xrandr> to change it. See also <hwinfo> and <xorg config>.

13:07<dpkg>Synaptic is a graphical user interface to add, remove and reinstall packages. It has dependency handling just like apt-get and integrates well with apt-get (also behaves well with aptitude too). http://wiki.debian.org/Synaptic http://wiki.debian.org/HowToSynaptic . Not to be confused with the <synaptics> touchpad driver.

13:07<dpkg>Synaptics is an X.org driver for laptop touchpads. Install the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package and "man synaptics" for driver options; configuration tools include synclient and gpointing-device-settings. 22:37<youlysses>Which is always good to hear! Still want to see a distro like gnewsense to bundle it for the casuals though. (Not to say installing/maintaining Debian is hard ... just not ideal for someone like my Mum, Pop, or Sis ... :-P)
22:38<scientes>youlysses, gnewsense is just ubuntu without the non-free parts
22:38<scientes>youlysses, and debian doesn't have any nonfree software in the defaut channels
22:38<youlysses>It's almost migrated to 100 debian.
22:38<scientes>oh thanks for the information, i didn't know
22:38<scientes>debian has progressed since i started using it, it didn't use to have an installable live CD
22:39<scientes>and you can help make wheezy better

22:44<scientes>youlysses, not really
22:44<scientes>you can always burn a cd image to a dvd
22:45<scientes>and a cd is big enough when xz compressed to hold a reasonable system

22:46<youlysses>Idk. :-P
