00:23<youlysses>I really don't want to though on a whole de to get it working, like I have in the bast. :-/ (Currently I'm running a small session with 'xorg' 'alsa' 'dwm' 'emacs').
00:23<bones_was_here>maybe the channels are muted
00:24<sney>youlysses, alsa is generally pretty foolproof. all you need for it to work are the kernel drivers.
00:25<sney>if you have no sound, after checking that your speakers are on and connected and your channels are raised, there are a couple things you can try.

00:30<youlysses>I see no "MM". Is this in 'alsamixer'?
00:31<youlysses>Oh!
00:31<sney>yeah. press 'm' to toggle
00:32<youlysses>I see it. Is it supposed to be highlighted, it's not?

01:03<jm_>!ask
01:03<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.
01:04<gattytto>my problem is: whenever I turn this notebook on, the default screen is set to vga-output SO if I don't plug an external monitor in, I have no video
01:05<gattytto>and I don't see any "xorg.conf" file being loaded in syslog so I don't know where it's getting that stuff from

04:46<afuentes>nor debian references, nor the readme files, nor the man

04:47<cthuluh>no

17:37<sney_>it's not like dumping an xorg transition on a stable user.
17:38<Lantizia>you wouldn't dump an xorg transition on a stable user at all unless there was a security reason
17:38<Lantizia>stable is stable - it's not about new features it's about bug fixes
17:38<chealer>Lantizia: security updates and other fixes, yes
17:39<Lantizia>so if it's not a security fix... it goes Experimental -> Proposed Updates -> Updates -> and finally (on a point release) Main

17:41<Lantizia>oh I'm not saying they do -- when I said Proposed Updates -> Updates ... I mean the Updates as in what used to be volatile
17:41<chealer>and it doesn't start with experimental. I guess it would start with unstable

DO NOT INSTALL PACKAGES FROM EXPERIMENTAL WITHOUT KNOWING EXACTLY WHY AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING. #debian does _not_ support experimental. For an actual description, see section 4.6.4.3 of the Developer's Reference. http://packages.debian.org/experimental/
