02:55<pparadis>that's really up to you. i run stable on almost all my systems, and use a couple of packages from backports here and there if i absolutely need newer functionality for something.
02:56<pparadis>i like my stuff to Just Work.
02:56<|GaiJin|>hehe
02:56<|GaiJin|>meaning testing dont always work?
02:56<pparadis>it is "testing" after all :)
02:56<pparadis>YMMV
02:57<|GaiJin|>sure... though I think my question should have been. How much testing is testing really...
02:58<pparadis>the best advice i can give you is to read this stuff --> http://www.debian.org/releases/
02:58<se7en>i run sid and things sometimes break. so i guess testing is between pparadis and me :)

03:00<EmleyMoor>pparadis: The problem is, there is an implication that the documentation on the config is out of date, and it should work with IPv6 "done right" with no clear indication as to what "right" is in this case. I've got it working over IPv4 at the moment anyway.

03:02<pparadis>EmleyMoor: yeah, i understand. unless somebody here happens to chime in later with specific config advice on that, it may be best to post to the mailing lists and see if someone can help you with a nice working example config for v6.

04:12<EmleyMoor>What's the best way to enter something that is basically a sequence of commands that will repeat until interrupted?
04:12<EmleyMoor>(I want to ls -lart ; sleep 60 and repeat, basically)
04:13<pparadis>EmleyMoor: http://tldp.org/LDP/Bash-Beginners-Guide/html/sect_09_02.html
04:13<petemc>while : ; do ls -lart ; sleep 60 ; done
04:13<petemc>theres also the watch command

06:07<o0u>hey, like described in this bug report ( http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=672483 ) my system just installed dnet-common . I had to select a node name + adress and then it told me it will reconfigure my mac adresses. There was no other option then "ok".. So how can I stop it now from changing anything on my next boot? is simply uninstalling dnet-common enough?

07:33<OdyX>So; just received my new laptop (with an SSD), I would like to have it encrypted and with two working "modes" (one boot as wheezy for work and one boot as sid for personal use); what partition layout would you use ?
07:33-!-carandraug [~carandrau@proxy3.library.nuigalway.ie] has joined #debian
07:36<babilen>OdyX: Why not use wheezy and run a KVM virtual machine (virt-manager) with sid (or the other way round) -- I would just use a seperate /boot, create one partition that you encrypt and use a LVM on top of that.
07:37-!-moy [~moy@41.107.228.151] has joined #debian
07:37<babilen>OdyX: wheezy and sid aren't really that different (at the moment) that it would make any sense to run both, but its up to you. I would personally either use sid or stable and I recommend stable for your work setup.
07:37-!-moy [~moy@41.107.228.151] has quit []
07:39<OdyX>babilen: the point is that the switch between "work" and "personal" involves a reboot.

07:49<pparadis>OdyX: i think i understand why you want to reboot between them, and i think part of that is enforcing a clear separation of work and personal sides. that said, you could always install stable and then run one VM for work and another VM for personal ;)
07:50<OdyX>hrm; Xen would be possible too.
07:50<OdyX>the question was more related to the partitioning; especially with regards to encrypted - on - SSD.
07:50<pparadis>i actually do that on a system, debian stable for the base OS, and multiple VMs for actually doing stuff.
